Good to meet you,did you not notice the Leaf hat. ;D ;D ;DWater clouded up considerably more after you left and was down to maybe a little better than a foot half hour later .
How is the condition today? It spiked up yesterday afternoon and got pretty brown by the time i left about 3:15 or so . It peaked late last night and has been dropping since then . So with out having had a look I'm assuming it is probably a little better then when I left and improving today as there is no rain today.
Went to Lickman at 4:00 pm hoping to fish last light.
Water was down to 4-6 inches of vis, if that, and a grey colour. I attempted to fish a run with a bright orange spoon, but unless it was less than 4 inches under the water it wasn't visible. Left and went home after 15 mins, might be in shape tomorrow, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
curious, as most of the time folks use float gear...Jeeez, don't get Dan going on throwing metal ;D
where do you use spoons on the vedder? I like chucking spoons and spinners to mix things up, but didn't thikn it was the best idea on the vedder.

went out this morning, brown. Vis was 6-12".
Fishing has been very slow. Fished lots of prime water with very good bait. Nothing but Dolly's to show so far. Typically would have at least got my first by now. Really seems like u need to win the lotto to hook up.
Seems if your looking to catch a fish this year, you might as well head down to your lickman and brown road holes.Funny you say that at least 50 guys out in those two runs today, and no fish to show for the day and only a couple yesterday.
no i heard up river and just behind on the way is hot stuff, go up river and find big fish
basically all up river is better than lower right now.
more like the few fish coming in are getting beat on from peach to train bridge
Peach Brown i call it the gauntlet. Sad to see all those good rods come to that. Fish dont have a chance thank god for evenings gives the fish a chance to move.
Lets close down some of these gong show spots to give the fish a fighting chance to get to my preferred pocket waters in mid river. ;DCan you fit 20 guys into each pocket?
Can you fit 20 guys into each pocket?
There are no fish yet.well maybe one or two.
My buddy messaged me that the river is "Timmy" coloured now.Very muddy and high at Lickman right now.
water still on the rise. must be a big melt happening up top.Warm wind is doing it.
Been hearing up till this big rain that fishing has been pretty poor. Can anyone verify that? Will be heading out this week regardless thanks.
Lovely water, unlovely fishing!!!
Water is finally down to normal levels nice green tint only thing missing. . . the FISH!!!!
With the heavy dump next week the tune will change to blown out conditions. 2 of the days have an estimated 50mm accumulation per day & the other 3 days 15- 30mm
Time to dust of the heavy gear!!
Iv talked to many different rods, and being Mid Feburary most haven't even hit the double digit mark yet. That shows a tough year for sure.Double digits ;D funny.
Doubt it gonna hold, too bad, really wanted to go out.Heavy rain now.
You guys think the rain tonight will dirty it up too much?Already high and dirty plus 10mm forecast tonight...
Worth heading out from the North Shore tomorrow?
Snowing fairly heavy in the wack right now... 3 inches of snow on roads.Love it. Keep the masses off the flow until I get out Tues - Wed ;D
If you don't have chains or a 4x4 with good snow tires good luck!

That's a well built fence. Keep the horses in and the fords out.
Thanks for the info. My Son and I are heading out tomorrow, carefully. Cheers
I was out for the day today and when I left the river was turning from Greenish Silt to brownish. Got no fish today. Didn't hear or talk to anyone that did. Going to take a few days off the river, I don't think it will be very fishable for a while if the rain continues. Getting lots of Dark green Silt from the snow melt mixed in with the mud from the clay banks. Should be good when it clears hopefully.
How is the visibility today?Improving now close to 2 feet a few minutes ago in the lower.
Wow, that changes fast. Around 5pm there was zero visibility just below the clay banks. Above the clay had about 16" vis in early morn. With the mild weather clay can fall in any time so conditions can change hourly.
Anyone have a report on the conditions today?Heading out shortly will give you a report on my return hopefully with a fish too. ;D
Anyone have a report on the conditions today?Conditions were good, I saw one hatchery taken another fish landed and another lost. Nothing for me again which I could not believe as fished some nice water. Found a few floats and it was lovely out there so not all was lost.
How was visibility?Must have been 2 feet but plenty good enough as fish were taken all day from reports I got and what I saw.

Water was on the higher side but just perfect in my mind this thursday. About a foot visibility in the lower with a bit of silt in the water but not too much. Saw two hogs as i arrived already on the beach and heard and saw nothing more through the entire river after.
Saw some yesterdayx2
Did it shape up a little bit today?Heading out now a report later.
Thanks for the advice. I have been steelheading for 20+ years. So I know where they are generally at different water levels. Now at this level, fishing slow seams at the edge of fast water, or the shallow & slow tail out (due to coloured water and fish feel safer to stay closer to shore), as well as the pockets in rapids (as the fish are travelling at higher water), plus slower side channels are going to be good. But this year being so slow, doesn't matter what skill and knowledge, it is more important to know that there are fish around, LOL. It is all part of the observation game of steelheading. If the water is optimal and lots of fishermen but very few catch on the river, it indicates very little fish. I generally make a call to Fred's to check # of weigh-in to gauge the fish density in the river. But I will go fishing if the weather is good. Fish or no fish, you have to treat steelheading a way of life, not meat collection like you do with salmon.
Have you seen any action in such high water, Chris?See my report for today in fishing reports. ;D ;D ;D
Hearing river is fine today, heading out soon and see if I can repeat Tuesday's success. :D/quote]

As of 6pm last night - about 3 feet of viz in the bottom end. I took a couple of nice bulls on the speyrod but no sign of steel. Not many anglers either

Anyone know what the vis is like right now? Planning on heading out tmr for a couple hours before work. Thanks
That's great to hear Tburns thanks. Good luck on hitting one on the fly. Only one Ive pulled in this year was on a colorado blade.
Conditions were perfect in the bottom end late yesterday afternoon. I hooked a fish briefly at the end of my day on a #3 Gold Colorado. The float went down, I felt the fish it rolled subsurface - but I got a good look at it and it was gone. First touch from a steelhead in 7 trips this season.
At least you can honestly say you had a solid touch. Many haven't even been that lucky this year but there have been more reports over the past two weeks. I had written this year off but I guess its not over till its over. I better check my gear and take some sacks out of the freezer for tomorrow. Can't miss now. ;D Hit the river at first light.
Is the river fishable with today's heavy rain?It was...took one on the fly today.
If it is John Milner black reel cover its mine lost 3 days ago.Sorry.
Water is still high, but visibility is 2.5-3 feet from top to bottom.
Lots of empty water. Didn't see or hear of any fish.
Really? We were fishing upper at first light and vis was terrible from Borden down. Maybe 1ft max.I was at the prison at 7am and I could see my boots while wading above my knees.
Can you gear fish above the crossingNo fishing above the crossing to protect spawning fish.
Retention of hatchery fish is allowed in May.
Below Vedder Crossing bridge: (a) fly fishing only, bait ban, hatchery rainbow trout release (50 cm or less), and hatchery cutthroat
release, May 1-31;
