Seen some highlights of one recent Maple Leaf game.
They reminded me of the likes of John Ferguson, Pat Quinn, & the 70's bad boy Flyers.

Stick work! ( without the puck )
Now if ya want to see hockey, there was a good game between the Canucks & the Rangers ( pre season ) Luongo gets a shutout & Canucks a big win.
Ex coaches of each team behind the benches.
Now that's drama.
Chris ya gotta breath deep the fresh air of BC & fresh brewing am coffee & then do the sensible thing.
Forsake the Leafs & join us Canuck fans.

Extra : gotta take my hat off & say a big congrads to the Hawks being the 2013 Champs.
What a interesting series it was between Boston & Hawks.

In all honestly the Leafs are getting better. ( they nearly knocked out Boston in the play offs but sadly there was a big comeback in the 3rd period. Nevertheless the Bruins had a big scare )

"70's bad boy Flyers"

Leafs got into 5 fights in their 1st game of the season ( a win )
One Habs player got seriously injured.

Lots of talk about banning fighting in the NHL again.
Today even some GMs have come out & said "fighting" does not belong in the sport or any sport.

Totally agree.

Players should be given a 5 game suspension if they " drop the gloves ".
Stick work also 5 games or more depending on how bad it is.

Fighting sends the wrong message.
No wonder there's so much violence in society among teens or bad cops or in marriages & even in the workplace.
W5 had a story of voilence in care homes & even death. ( homocide )

Leafs are playing like goons so far this season. Boo !

Had to go out to do various errands but did catch some of the game between Leafs & Flyers.

In the limited viewing, thought TO was really skating hard & having creative play making.
Think I will have to kept my eyes on this team.
Are the Maple Leafs for real ? or going to flop , fiss out , & run out of gas & return to their old losing ways ?
Personally it would be great if any Canadian team wins the Stanley Cup as it's due.
Why not the Leafs.

Leafs look much improved this year.  I really hope they make the big "step" into the playoffs.

FWIW I don't even like the Leafs, I just like the idea of such a storied franchise where it belongs - back in the postseason.

A history for Leaf fans especially Chris.  Remember last year the Leafs also got off to quick start and people were saying that this will be the year. Fast forward to June, remember what happened ? For those with memory loss, a refresher:

Leafs are headed in right direction.  As a lifetime fan, these are exciting times indeed and long overdue.  Many years of frustration, (I was a 9yr old the last time they won the cup) has hopefully ended.  Last years shocking exit from playoffs still stings but at least the big bad Bruins had the same fate handed to them by Chicago.  All of you Canucklehead fans take note.  It takes a real fan to support their team even when the chips are down.  I see some lean times for the Nucks as management has done nothing to bolster this team which was a whisker away from hoisting Lord Stanley's mug.

Canucks better be ready & get some wins.
Too many losses & Torts will rip off his "smiling rubber mask" & all "h will break loose"

Wish the Habs had all French players. Maple Leafs all English men.
The Canucks team made up of all BC boys of any race background.   ;D

This is the best start Vancouver has had since 2005. The Canucks are doing fine for how they put together a season.

I believe TO always start strong, hopefully they don't fade out of the playoffs again (short season excluded). Would be nice to see more Canadian teams in the playoffs!

Getting some pts in this long eastern road trip.

Two ex Canucks on this yr's Leafs team.

If the Leafs go down hill ,the sales of prune juice, apple sauce, bran cereal, crap pills will go up rapidly.
Nothing like losing your digestion when reality sets in.

Leaf fans in the Vancouver area must be eating lots of bran cereal, apple sauce, & taking a few crap pills after that loss.
It really looked like men playing against boys.
Totally one sided.
Maybe it's a set up.
Next game the Canucks think they will just have to lace up to beat them but the real Leafs show up in the rematch.
Maple Leafs must be up to some crazy plan because they played terrible so terrible that it must of been on purpose.
Maybe it was the fresh air of the Pacific West coast
Eastern players normally breath in more smog filled air. :o

The elbow directed towards Henrik Sedin looked dangerous if it connected.
A player racing around the ice one sec is thinking defence & the next change gears & go up ice on offence. Everything changes in 1-2 seconds.
Same when two players that come close to each other. Possibly the elbow was meant to contact the shoulder area thus to put Sedin off balance.

Players have split second decisions & sometimes a elbow is meant to injure or maybe not.
We had some players that gave out dirty hits or elbows that made headlines & these guys are no longer with the team.
Mind you some hits with a high stick or elbow one can see it was a real penalty.
Ask that Detroit Red Wing player who lost some teeth & got a lot of stitches 10 or more yrs. ago.

Leafs did not play very good against the Canucks but maybe it was just one of those days for the Leafs.
The Canucks did not look very good against Detroit recently.

I'm hoping for a team from Canada to finally win the Cup this year. Been awhile.
Guess the USA NHL teams are hogging the Cup because years ago Edmonton & Montreal hogged it.
Paying us back.
Mind you with the majority of teams in the US they have a higher % to be the Champions again.
At least the $ exchange between US & Canada are close.
Remember some yrs ago the US $ was so much higher in exchange thus the Canada NHL teams had a harder time to sign the stars of the game.

Give me a Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup & if that means Chris's Maple Leafs so be it.
Have to admit the Leafs have played some inspired games & if they get a good goaltender or goaltending ya just never know.

Not happy that we lost a good goalie to the Devil's but so nice not seeing the endless stories about last year's goaltending situation.

So far with Torts & the way the team is playing I'm impressed.

Leafs win one in Boston !
5-4 .
Watched the highlights & lots of creative scoring by both teams.
Boston was all over the Leafs with 49 secs to go but they hung on for the W.
Something like how the Blues nearly tied the game late in Vancouver a few days ago.

Canucks playing hard but have not gained very many pts in 2014.
Sometimes I think the Canucks are still affected by that 7 game loss & Vancouver riot.
Maybe they are afraid to make a 100 % run as they are still wounded mentally by the past final series.
Canucks been to the finals 3x & lost 3x.
Reminds me of the Bills in football.
Got to final game so many times only to lose.
Try so hard to get there only to lose.

Go Canucks go !
Think they will catch fire soon.

Canucks get blasted in California via the hands of the Ducks.
What was it 9-1 or 8-1 ?
3rd string goalie in part of the game did not help.

Ducks are playing great hockey. Canucks are in a downer & so many other NHL teams playing great.
Has reality set in & the fact is the Canucks just have over the hill players who need 2 days rest before playing.
Heads are going to roll if this keeps happening or a big trade or 2 or 10 player swap !!!
Maple Leafs look good compared to the Canucks.
Maybe the head coach will have a paper bag over his head tonight in Coyote land.
Game on at 6 pm on boobtube.
Go a Canucks go!

Good news the Canucks lost only by a goal but coach Torts says the players can't make any offensive play making.
Where is the pressure & 2-3 wacks at rebounds.
It's like the players have got their contracts signed & happy for the present to future pay checks thus they are just showing up.
Well the pressure is on now.
Now not only the coach is on their butts but the media & fans too.
Plus players start pointing fingers at each other.
Hamus had 3 goals that came from a deflection off his stick in the last 3 games.
Gee the other team are just going to make a pass to Hamus & hope for a goal  :o

Ugly game & getting worse.
Think the players have to bear down & believe in themselves.
Other teams see their struggle & smell blood ( no mercy like lions having a wounded wilderbeast in their sight. )

Better to play bad now & catch fire later thus make a run for the Cup.

Edit in: now it's Sat. & the Leafs win a big game in TO over the Canadians !
They now have 4 wins in a row.

Flames in Vancouver & about to start.
Flames are a lowly team with no offence so the Canucks will win without any problem.
Bet the house.
Just no way the Canucks will lose this game; if the Flames win I'll eat my "shorts".

I bet the Canucks score 4-5 goals at least. flames  2-3.

Leafs are on a roll & after a win tonight possibly the Canucks will get on a winning streak.

Canucks lost to the Oilers last night & they looked so so flat.
Fans should of demanded a refund.
Need Torts back behind the bench.
Also a change of the C.
Sorry but the Canucks right now look like a team that has their signed contract & salary thus play good or lazy they get the same pay.

Maple Leafs look 5x better than them at the moment.

Watched the game between the Devils & Rangers & there was fast exciting hockey with all sorts of scoring chances.

Canucks seem to play in a daze.
No offence & no body checks.
What's the answer?
Will they miss the play offs & or exit the play offs in early rounds?

Think the Canucks should make a major trade(s).
Get new blood in here quick.
At least 6-8 players.
Should bring in Cournal's (sp?) son.
Big guy & has that very cool character about him.
He also will stick up for his teammates if needed.

Tonight the Canucks get a 2-0 lead only to lose 5-2 to a team that was in an exciting game in Calgary the night before.
Canucks were rested & Blackhawks were not.
Cat's away the mice will play.
Torts away the Canucks take it easy.

Now they hit the road against tough teams Montreal Boston on & on.
Even against TO.
Who will have the bragging rights after that game.

Calgary & Edmonton look better than the Canucks right now.
Oilers winners of 3 in a row.

And the results were?
More Losses  >:(
Torts is trying his best to rally his crew.

Players look clueless on how to score goals.
( the name of the game is to put a disc called a puck into the net. Ya know the thing with two posts & crossbar. And do not put the puck in your net. Go that way & score in the other players net. Torts should give them this info before the game. Seems to me they are merely chasing the puck & when they have it they simply do not know what to do after. )

As FA posted " Changes are being made "
Diaz the newbie sure looked good in his 1st game !
He's got a wicked shot.

Boston looks like they still are a powerhouse team.
Rugged & good play all around.
Not surprised they beat the Canucks.
Bruins wanted the W & they got it.

Lots of Canucks are going to the Winter Oly Games.
Maybe too many players are distracted.
( games themselves & bomb threats )

Vancouver Canucks vs Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

FA gave the nickname LAUGHS to the Leafs.

So I declare the loser of Saturday's game must wear a dunce hat with the words " We are LAUGHS"
For those who do not know what a dunce hat is; it's a hat worn on top of one's head. It is about .5 meters high & comes to a pointy top.

On the bottom of this hat will be written " We are LAUGHS "

Go Canucks go !
Win Saturday's game so the Leafs will have to wear the dunce hats  ;D

This game will be more interesting than last weeks Super Bowl unless one was pulling for the Seahawks. One sided affair.

Think Saturday's game will be close & exciting.
Torts should be in good coaching form as I bet the game is on "Hockey Night In Canada"
( big tv audience )

Hate to say it but the new crowned dunce hat with the words LAUGHS goes to the Canucks!

 :( :o :-[ :-[ :-[ no laughing matter.

7 losses in a row.
Again a puck goes in off a Canuck player.
5-6 goals in the last month goes off a Canuck player.

Actually thought the Canucks played better than the Leafs & the score does not tell the true story.
Unreal.

Edit in: thank God for a 2 week break.

Well said Chris & FA Go Canada Go.

To tell ya the truth Luongo has not impressed me this year.
Too many thru the 5 hole ( between the pads ) & also that crazy move where he dives head first on the surface of the ice & he spreads his pads wide.
All the shooter does is shoot a 3 ft high or higher shot & it's an easy goal.
Good that Canada is being 3 goalies.

Was very impressed by TO Kessel ( sp? )
Talented guy & strong / tough. What a great shot he has.

Wow that's a surprise.
Luongo had a few good seasons but over all it has been a soap opera for him,& the fans.
He was signed for too much $$$.
He's a good goalie but not a super star goalie.

Eddie Lack has great skills & really is good on his angles.
The goals that beat him were not his fault. BC Place Stadium game ( edit in )
He was totally screened on one, another deflected in off a Canuck D's glove & into the net.

Now if we could only get rid of the Sedins.
They always have nagging injuries.
Too laid back & quiet to be a C.
Plus they get cheap shots & they just take it time & again.

Anyways in hockey ,not always the best teams win, but normally do.
Too many teams are way better than the Canucks & we need a lot more new blood on the team.
Keep the revolving door going till the Canucks make it right.
Trade Kessler ?
Mixed feelings on that one.
If he wants out ,then ok trade him.

Game 7 of the 2013/14 Stanley Cup Finals !

Florida 1 Vancouver 0 with 5 secs. to go in the game.

Luongo in the net for Florida , Eddie Lack in the net for the Canucks.

5-4-3-2-1  siren zzzz

Panthers win the Stanley Cup.

Fans rioting downtown Vancouver! Call the cops.

Luongo stopped 55 shots.
Lack 15.

Oh by the way the Canucks have to pay 15% of Luongo's salary.

That's all we need to be defeated in the Canucks 4 th trip to the finals & pay an ex Canuck to do so. >:( :( 8)

I heard that they had a deal in place but Luongo nixed it because he wanted to go to Florida.  His agent (who has since been fired) lead Luongo to believe that a deal with Florida could be made.

Less than a week ago while the Leafs were on a power play they allowed 2 short handed goals  :o

Tonight it happened again ,as on the same power play the Rangers scored 2 short handed goals!

Mind you Leafs scored in OT to get 2 pts.

Do the math; Leafs on 2 power plays get scored on 4 x  YIKES "that's scary"
Does that remind you of the game between the Leafs & Boston in last yr's playoffs.( sorry Chris  :) )

Guess on the bright side the Leafs can blunder now & get it out of their system.
Leafs coach must have a few more grey hairs.

Possibly the Leafs need Rob Ford as assist coach or PR man & he will definitely have a good explanation on these blunders.
Somehow after Ford gets thru explaining " it will kinda make sense "

Rob Ford " Well ya see the Leafs were told to allow short hand goals happen because..."

Canucks finally get a win.
Calgary's PP reminded me of Vancouver's.
All they did was throw the puck around the Canucks zone & killed the Canucks penalty.
Once & awhile the Flames actually decided to shoot.  ;D

Canucks did a very smart move by getting the puck to the net & then getting 3 guys in there looking for rebounds.
The puck at that point is like in a pin ball machine bouncing about, & then there's a 50% chance they can bang it again towards the net.

Boston & Chicago do that all the time.
Guy either shoots at the net & other 2 forwards are skating in looking for rebounds OR the forward with the puck tries to carry it close to the net before he wrists or backhands it & then 3 forwards attack the net looking to bang in the rebound or available puck.
( sometimes it hits a D man's stick or leg )

The D 's & goalie nightmare is 3 forwards looking for the puck 5 ft. In front of the net.

Now will the Canucks put the play in their coming games or abandon what works ???

I predict the Canucks will win the Cup this year.

Give me another shot of whiskey.
Yikes !!! 7 goals against in the 3rd period after no goals allowed for 2 periods.

This has to be in a tv show " Believe it or Not "
Get out the paper brown bags with 3 holes.
2 for eyes & 1 for the nose.

Really feel sorry for the head coach Torts as he is trying to rally the troops & keep a brave front during all these losses.
When it was 3-0, the thought is this has to be another W.
Now the Leafs can feel better after their meltdown last year.
Canucks proved it can be copied.

Many BC NHL sports fans who cheer on the Leafs or Montreal Canadians when they play in Vancouver possibly are laughing at the "meltdown" of the Canucks the other day.
7 goals against the Canucks in 1 period. Yikes!

But there is a team that allowed 9 goals in one period to set the present day record.
Any guesses who that team may be.

Get your head out of the sand all you T.O. fans.
The answer is the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Not too far back in time either. :-[

Maybe the team had food poisoning or the flu ?
""" bad news before the game?
"""" the players want to get their head coach fired?
"""" players wanted  more money to play harder?
20 minutes in a period divided by 9 goals= a goal nearly every 2 minutes.

Has anyone noticed a change regarding the Canucks?

After 2 months of horrible play the team presently is skating & working hard.
Coach Torts has that shock look on his face & seems rather quiet ,tamed & subdued.
He knows after all the losses in Jan Feb & March ( melt down ) the sports media are wanting answers & calling for " heads to be chopped "
Fire the coach or GM.

The players I truly believe like Torts & Mike G. so something tells me they are playing hard so they will not be fired.
Also of course want to save their own job.

What drama with the Panthers & Canucks having a shootout to see who gets 2 pts.

Yahoo Canucks get the W.

Luongo has a lot of pressure in Florida with his big $ but nothing like what he went thru in Vancouver.
He has to feel good though as the Vancouver fans cheered for him at the end instead of booing.

That Kassian named guy (sp?) is always taking dumb penalties.
Got the guy from Buffalo Sabres.
Get rid of the guy.
Plus 2 goals go off the same Canuck D player.

Nearly tied it up though, 4-3 L nevertheless.

If Dallas Stars can lose a few & Phoenix Predators do the same & the Canucks get hot ,there is a chance they get into the play-offs.
& who knows they just may from there "make a good run"

Sports results can surprise & leave the experts with: "Who would of ever thought that would happen ! "

On the other hand Canucks are playing good hockey lately.
Kassain (sp?) actually decided to play a great game against his old team (Sabres) He played hockey & did not take dumb penalties.
Canucks down 2-0 early but play hard & win 4-2. Canucks last game before today was on Tues or last Wed. so they were rested & ready to go.
Eddie Lack is a good goalie.
Luongo contract was a problem & it created problems in the dressing room as well.
Say you work at a factory & you make $12 hr but the other guy makes $35 hr.

What is it now , 3 wins in the last 4 games. Hope they keep it going.
Leafs are on a roller coaster lately.
Maybe goaltending been a problem. Surely Chris must know what's going on with the Leafs.

If ya go to the Canucks website look for the 44 pics of the players in Tampa.
In the hotel, at the rink, on the ice,on the plane.
One really gets an insight what they go thru on a road trip.

Leafs won but barely.
It was a close one.

Kessel smashed his stick to pieces at the bench & think it woke up his teammates to play a full 60 minutes.
Sujj. a trade of any 2 Canuck players for Kessel.

Next move is trade entire team to NYC for the Rangers.
Another swap.

2 home losses with no offence by the Canucks.
Where were the hits ?
Where was going to the net?
4 pts would of gotten the team within 2-3 pts. from a play-off position.

Think the team has gotten too old plus young players are just up & down washy washy players.
Their mental state seems to play just good enough to miss the play offs & have a long Spring & Summer off & cash their cheques.

If I were pres. of the NHL ya put in the contracts; lose the game & your $ for that game is 50% chopped.
Win the game & the player gets his normal pay plus 50% extra!!!

Somehow think that would clear the fuzzy mental state & light a fire under their butts.
Think in reality they just do not want to hit & work hard,go to the net & look for rebounds. Lazy team. Boo.

OK we have a number of NHL teams in Canada.

Montreal,Toronto, Ottawa,Winnipeg,Edmonton,Calgary & Vancouver.

When was the last NHL team from Canada to win the Stanley Cup.

Was it Montreal Canadians in the early 1990s ?
Something like that.
Before that in the 80s Calgary won it & the Edmonton Oilers took their share.

But basically for 20 or more yrs Canada has had not one Stanley Cup team.

When team Canada plays they normally do quite well.

Personally think it's time for Canadian NHL teams to load up with 95 % born in Canada players & maybe 5% other.
Players on the teams just may play with that extra heart to win the cup, when they are born in Canada. Kinda like  " Let's bring the Cup home boys. "

Too many European player etc want the big "bucks" & an early exit from the play offs or miss the play offs means a nice 4-5 month holiday.

Load the Canucks with Canadian players,& a Canadian coach & GM & something tells me this team will be a lot more hard working than the team we have now.
Do the same with the other Canadian NHL teams & something tells me the Stanley Cup will be won at least every 5 yrs. ( by a Canadian hockey team )
Takes heart to press on to go far into the play offs. Team full of Canadians will have "heart".
It is drilled in them from a young age.
