I'm going to be spending four days up at Whistler in early July and will be looking for any nearby wadable trout streams near Whistler. I don't necessarily want to use a guide service - just find some nearby streams?
Any advice

Fitzsimmon's creek

Fitzsimmons creek looks a little to glacial for me to wanna fish it there is another small creek that runs through function junction (miller creek?) it looks decent but i havent tried fishing it yet everything is still high with runoff.

Bears? I'm gonna be by myself!!!

keep your food sealed in metal containers. carry a FOX 40 whistle and bear spray. make lots of noise and every once in a while, snap a stick in two. this makes bears think there is another bear in the area. they ussually run of when they hear this.
(i am in no way responible for any bears actions if you follow these guidelines....bears are unpredictable) ;D ;D

NEVER SNAP STICKS,sing or talk loud is the best bet

I hear the same thing...it may make a bear investigate as to whether the "intruder bear" is worth challenging. I was also told that making loud sounds is good, unless the bears are habituated to using human camps for food, then there is little you can do to discourage them. Good luck..nothing like pushing through the bush while hiking, only to be face to face with a bear 10 feet away....I was lucky though, the bear was well aware of my presence (although I cannot claim the same about him) and he was not startled. He simply looked up then went back to eating berries, as I backed off.
