Mouthfull of teeth on that little bugger!!! Cool!
released Typhoon ?
nice shot of a hatchery fish that doesnt have "dead eye" syndrome. I really do prefer shots of fish while they still have life in them over shots of dead ones lying beside someones gear.
HOOK - does everyone fish with Islanders, Milners and Kingpins ? lol :P
congrats on your first fly caught steelie! that is a cool looking rod what is it the cork looks very unique.Looks like a Loop Opti or Evotec with the hexagonal burl grip. Very unique - some people find them comfortable.
Way to go, Ssypark!!! Gorgeous wild fish - chrome as can be.Thanks! Much more rewarding catching steel on the fly that you tie yourself and have confidence in. As well as catching one on the fly opposed to the now Very dusty old gear rod. The gear fisherman across the river looked pretty jealous and aggravated watching me fight this beauty, and began switching his bait to colorado, to worm, to roe, to yarn, etc EVERY cast afterwards. hahaha
That fly looks almost identical to the fly I got MY first fly-caught steelhead on!
congrats on your first fly caught steelie! that is a cool looking rod what is it the cork looks very unique.
was the gear comment really needed. fishing is fishing whether using fly, gear or spinning. its all about preference. sorry just dont like the one way is better than the other mentality.

my feelings aren't hurt. i just don't think their is need for it. he is essentially laughing at a fisherman using different tactics because he hooked a fish when we all know it goes both ways, but this is just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt

Ssypark is just excited, I don't think his comment is mean-spirited. Most of us have been in that situation. He's not making fun of the gear fishermen, but he just finds it funny that he actually caught one on the fly, which is a rather difficult accomplishment for many, while the angler using conventional gear, which has a much bigger chance to get them, couldn't connect with a fish.

Spoon Fed
Nice collection mr.p.
Are the spoons BC Steel?
They are R&B Lure Company. Proving to be quite deadly so far. They'll be available locally in early March.
What size do you find most useful for Vedder? 2/5 or 2/3?
As someone who is used to 1/2 oz spoons, I do carry them both, but most of the time I end up using 1/2 oz for some reason.
Firebird, That is one brute of a buck!Yep, it woke me up out of my mid-afternoon daydream :) It also made the longest non-stop run I've ever experienced - I thought he had ideas of heading back to the 'chuk.
I could just imagine how violent the hit must have been on that large colorado. ;D
Is that pinkish thing by the dorsal fin a tag in the last post? Similar to what you see in my avatar.

Skagit bullies loving the R&B 50/50 silver/brass 2/3 spoons!
Surprisingly, got some very nice rainbows on them as well, and boy did they hit hard!

Dan - do you have small hooks attached with braid on those lures ?
I haven't seen that before but its an excellent idea !
Grass carp caught on tom thumbs during the rice husk "hatch".
Excellent!! Was this in BC?
Hey Hook.
Yep I do!
A few main main reason I do it:
1) I was not liking the amount of bleeders and badly hooked fish I was getting with the 1/0 hooks. The small hooks do way less damage.
2) It's way easier to bury a small hook than a large one, and I find most times I actually need to dig the small ones out with pliers they are hooked so well
3) I lose way less fish now. Probably upped landing % on steelhead and all other fish by at least 50% since I started doing it earlier this year. I figure it's due to the braid being able to twist any which way without the fish being able to get leverage, and the fact that the small hook buries deep every single time. I also don't miss as many hits with the trailer.
Matzou size 4 hooks are my favorite. Super sticky sharp (even more so than gammies) and many times a hook set isn't even required. Works great for the coho that tend to follow and grab your spoon and swim with it without you even knowing, they just can't let go of it after like they normally do!
Great pics as usual Every Day. I also really like your spoon rigging technique as I hate using those 1/0 hooks as well. What a great idea! I can't tell from your pics if you attach the braid directly to the spoon, or do you keep a split ring on there?
I don't actually use a split ring or anything, just straight to the spoon.
What I do is tie a 20 braid/backing loop right to the hook (can whip them up really quickly, just some tying thread to the hook). Once you have the loop tied to the hook it's pretty much a loop to loop connection!
I don't use a split ring because I had a couple hooks work themselves right off the split ring a few times.
Make sure with this rig if you are only using the 20 pound braid/backing like I do that you check the braid after 5 or so fish (larger fish like steelhead that is - rainbows or bulls no big deal). I found that if I get lots of snags or hit a bunch of fish in a row that the edges of the metal on the spoon will actually sever the braid a bit and can result in the hook being pulled right off with a larger fish (or a snag which is good at times!). Not sure if a larger braid would help with that. On the other side of that if I make sure the braid is good I have landed steelhead up to ~18 pounds on this set up without issues. I generally replace the single hook on my spoon after every trip any ways as I just like starting with a super sticky hook and the matzou's are cheap at around 8 bucks for a 100 pack.

jacked the pic idea from someone on this forum... thanks ;D
what kind of flies are those? i've been wondering what flies i should use to catch crappies and bass
caught the crappie and bass on small panfish poppers. the sunfish is on a damsel nymph
I think it's a pumpkinseed...pumpkinseed, sunfish, bluegill. I think all are appropriate names for that fish. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pumpkinseed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pumpkinseed)

Nice tank of a spring everyday!
Sandman - good lookin little pink you got there. Looks like a "humpless" buck? I caught lots of small "humpless" bucks on the Squamish this year.

Just float fishing with UV pink wool. That was caught on the first drift at the water he was holding btw :)

Vedder today
Nice fish !!

The grass is always greener on the other side. ;D hungry6, I've lived and fished in both Australia and Canada. While the quality of salmon and trout fishing in BC cannot be matched in a few other parts of this planet, Australia's saltwater fishing is far better than all the other regions where I have fished. If given the option on where to fish, I'd rather be jigging or livebaiting for kingies on the East Coast, freespooling for snappers in the South, bottom fishing for King George whiting, rockhopping for drummers, and landbased spinning for kahawai and other pelagic species.
The other gong has been rung lol
Where should we write to? You should put up a link to one of your well written letters and some addresses.
funny you guys mention it. looks what in the news today. apparently its a done deal. well have to see about that.

killing it on the hardware.
Yep, those new trophy tackle spinners were KILLING it yesterday. So lets see what Kitty caught..
Probably out fished spoons on a 5 to 1 or 6 to 1 ratio. Copper vs Silver blade worked 3 to 1 better in the coloured up water.

So... uhh... has any one else ever seen a coho this big? :o

Length was 35 inches... didn't take a girth. Biggest I've ever seen in person by far, well over 20 for sure!
She's kicking my arse this year... got it behind me even...
One more of what caught the beast...

Massive Coho, or just a really small girl.. :oI have not yet had the pleasure of meeting Kitty, so cannot comment on her size but that is perhaps the largest coho I have seen. Back in the day I saw a limit of a 16 and a 17 from the Vedder but have not seen coho even close to that weight since.
how do post a picture tried dragging it over but doesn't work

Wicked morning fishing with more than enough hook ups on the new rod and reel for the first time!!
emm.. newbie here.. what kind of fish is this?
It's a Coho.
We'll if you take a look at the mouth you will see a black mouth with bright white gums at the base of the teeth.
I haven't noticed it too much. What I have noticed is when they do have it, they have it bad (not 5 or 6 bumps like normal, some this year have just been covered!).
Out of over 80 fish between Kitty and I so far, I'd say only 2 or 3 had it. This was one of them:

For those who don't know what we are talking about, they appear to be cysts just under the skin. To be honest I forget what it's called too. Not a big deal if you're eating them, just doesn't look nice.
Is that a Rainbow Trout? Looks nice.

Anyone know what type of crab this is? Looks like an alien, and no I didn't eat it I tossed it back.

Nice to meet you gmachine, and your buddies, yesterday afternoon. I saw you land that fish - yes, turned out to be a nice chrome slab!
Every Day
What size blade and spinner body weight do you find to be most efective from the Trophy Tackle Spinners?
I was thinking of getting some size 4's 3/8 or 1/2 oz.
Dan those are some awesome shots !
Having so many doubles headers would make for an amazing day and probably something that may never be repeated.
Does Trophy Tackle give you free stuff yet for all this publicity ?? ;)
Just shows that it's always good to have a large assortment of stuff when it comes to coho.
Exactly why I have 2 full fly boxes of just coho flies :)

I read somewhere about yellow coloured ones having some sort of disease or something that can cause people harm
Looking at the left side of the photo, looks as though it wasnt a personal fish
A yellow salmon is not going to give you a disease... come on, how is a cold blooded animal disease going to infect you?
It's all media hyped BS pumped out by Morton. When she says "flu-like" that doesn't mean you're going to get the flu, it means that it is similar to a flu virus, but it only effects salmon and presents as flu like symptoms in salmon. In fact, for any one to make claims that it will make you sick is nonsense, mostly because no one even really knows what is causing the yellow salmon at this point. She'd of course like to believe it is fish farm caused, I highly doubt it.
The only thing you'll ever catch from fish is parasites, worms, etc if you don't cook them properly.
Thanks guys, gonna be hard for me to top that one on the C&V. Yes same one. Fish was a football 36"x15"Kaw Kaw
