Caught 1 nice size english sole. alot of other people caught a bunch.
had an encounter with pouchers... made the call but they left before the officer came so i feel bad and blame myself that they got away.
-
What were they poaching off Ambleside ? Crabs ?
-
yep, phillipinos ppl. snatching crabs as small as 3 inches... mostly females too.
-
it was ... hard to say now cause is in the frying pan lol. but it was a desent size. from what i can remember is somewhere around 15"? not sure.
caught alot of other fish but i only keep soles/flounders and greenlings.
caught some bullhead. some eels. and 2 really big star fish. saw some dude who caught a baby cabezon about 6 inches long.
and i caught these fish around 5, so is not really the prime time for fishing yet but then i was force to leave cause of the rain.

COOL!!! can you retain those and how do you cook em??
-
yes you can, they belong in the sculpin family so the daily limit is 8 i think. as for cooking. i fillet'd the meat made chinese stuff with it and the head and bones made soup with it.
-
Thanks Jighead!!! i've had sculpin before, but have never seen these......
-
when it 1st came out of the water i thought it was a lingcod cause the mouth was so big. but then it never dove down so i knew it was a cabezon and also it was very lazy barely moved :)
the meat is very chewy :D
-
hhmmmmmm chewy............... ;D ;D (ala homer simpson)
-

Hi :)
Going to take my mom for her first crabbing and fishing trip to ambleside tomorrow.
Was it busy today? Any tips on bait etc would be appreciated! :) ;D ;D
-
didnt go today, but the pier has alot of space so is barly busy.
if you were having high hopes for crabbing at ambleside then im sry. from my experiances, ambleside park is 1 of the places with the least crabs ive ever seen. althought once a fullmoon someone gets a keeper size crab.
as for bait; alot of ppl will use chicken and such. but i usualy use fish such as salmon or bullheads because i once caught a sole that got ripped inhalf by a big crab lol. it was funny. but then again im not much of an expert in crabbing.
as for fishing, Best bait to worst *in order* IMO is; Sea worms, prawns, fillet'ofish *lol bullheadmeat*,dewworms, chicken.
im not sure if i made any sense cause im listening to loud music :P good luck tomorrow, you might see me there.

Cabezon is awesome BBQ'd..but warning...DON't EAT the ROE..it is HIGHLY TOXIC!
and watch the fin barbs..they can give you a nice sting
Cabezon are great spear fishing prey...you can get some good sized ones..up to 15 lbs
-
It looks like they could be family of a Lincod?
