Title: 8w reel upgrade sugestions
Post by: 180gall on September 28, 2012, 05:11:02 PM
Hey every one looking for some input on upgrading
My 8w reel. I was thinking of getting a dragonfly cartridge reel
As I have one on my 5w and like the reel and if I
Remember right it was a good price. However I don't
Think they make them anymore. So I would like a decent
Price and performance with drag. This reel will be
Salmon and steelhead only as I use may 5w for still water.

Sage 1680 or Lamson Konic look like pretty good performance reels at an entry level price (100 - 130 dollars).  I'd recommned one these over a dragonfly cassette reel.  They are a bit more expensive but worth it IMHO.

I bought a Lamson Konic for my 9 weight and love it. The drag is great and it's great value - $150.
