There is no best fishing line. It's all personal preference. By the type of fishing you were mentioning I would say braid would be your best bet. Maybe fireline in 15-20 pound diameter which is the equivalent to about 40 pound test.

"the best" is pretty subjective and there is no ONE answer.

Not saying it is "the best" but if I were putting line on a spinning reel, I would give Berkley Trilene XL Armour coat a try. It is amazingly limp and does not hold coils like a lot of lines. Pull it off the spool and it just lays straight. I bet is would be great on spinning reels, which naturally tend to have problems with lines coiling and holding curls.

Edit to add: I just reread and saw the bottom bouncing part. In that case braid is probably your best bet.

The only thing I use braid on is my sturgeon and bar rods. For them I use power pro.

No idea what guys prefer on lighter setups for bb'ing.

so what does the braid gives to the bottom bouncing

The reason braid is used is because it is a lot stronger then mono. This allows you to pull your gear off snags. Also braid is very sensitive and allows you to feel everything, I won't say bite because that's not what's happening. I'd go with Berkeley fireline but up to you.

for colour.. their website tells you advantages of each colour and when to use..but use whatever you like better. i like dark green http://www.powerpro.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/power_pro_v2/products/powerpro_super_lines.html  .. see what the store has as well. they might not have some colours

Ok, all the brands everyone has mentioned are great for what you want to do. I have used spider wire once and found it had lots of abrasion and didn't last very long. If that's the line you want to use, go for it. Use about 10 pound diameter, as braid is bought by diameter and not pound test. It's really simple, most fishing stores if you ask the question they will lead you in the right direction. In the Fraser the clarity is usually poor so worrying about the fish seeing the line and spooking is not much of an issue while bottom bouncing. I don't bottom bounce but I have used braid a lot for bar fishing and sometimes other situations,.

do all braid lines have the same sensitivty and casts farther?
Title: Re: what is the best fishing line?

The two basic thing you have to understand about braid is that first of all, braid does not stretch and therefore very little give when you are playing your fish and therefore you need to remember that. Secondly braid does have a much thinner diameter than mono-filament lines which is great because it helps to cut through the water much more efficiently and therefore least resistance. This gives you extra sensitivity when BBing and less drag when bar fishing means that you need less weight at the business end. Braided lines can also do a number on your rod and guides if you are not careful because they are very abrassive, unlike mono-filament. So the answer to your question is that there really isnt a best line but more so what you prefer to go with, knowing the pros and cons of these types of lines. Hope this helps.

Because the line cuts through the water more efficiently due to its thin diameter, there is less drag due to water resistance, and therefore when bar fishing, the currently doesnt push your terminal gear as much and therefore you need less weight to keep it in place which is a good thing when playing a fish with less weight swing around. As for the part about doing a number on your rod and guides, braided lines have a tendency to wear your guides more readily. If you cast and somehow have the braided line wrapped around your rod, it can actually score the rod which is not great for your rod, especially if it is an expensive one like a sage or a GLoomis. Personally I like the braid when bottom bouncing because you can feel every little bit of the river bottom and the hit is much more amplified because as I said, there is no stretch.

Fishing line is like vehicles. What I like to use you might not work for you. Go grab yourself one type of your spiderwire and giver a shot. If it casts nice and you like using the stuff then stick with it. If you think it's garbage then try again. Eventually you'll find one you like and that will be your go to stuff. I've always used mono. It hasn't done me wrong so I haven't tried anything elce. Just my two cents.

Just get this http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/5/SportsRec/Fishing/FishingLine/PRD~0773003P/Berkley+NanoFil+Fishing+Line.jsp?locale=en
Or go to a canadiantire and they have a whole booklet that tells u what each line is good for.
Don't bother with colour at this point since you will be tying a "leader" which is a length of fluorocarbon or mono line to your braid. Or get green if u wanna go direct to hook.
BTW u can edit your posts to include additional questions or even do a search as this subject has been discussed before.
And if u r trying to get to 50 posts to access the fishing reports, don't bother, it won't give you any special magic info on where the fish are.

whats fray?

Simply means the line is coming apart. Not good when you're fishing

I have used spider wire braided line, and I would not recommend it. it started to fray the very first day I used it on my level wind bait casting reel. but I have had my reel spooled at the tackle shop and the braided line they used was pretty good, not much fraying at all.

I'm not to sure exactly what brand of braided line they used but most tackle shops use good braided line to spool your reel.

Maxima ultra green for main line
Segar floro for lead.
you will never have problems unless you don't tend your lines properly after a day of fish.
