just wondering how under gunned i am with an 11'3" 7 wt

seeing as its a switch rod (im assuming by its length) you "should" be fine but then again reds do like to run and jump more than their white cousins that just dog the bottom. Reds on average are smaller than whites so you should be fine, if you feel you cant handle a fish then just point the tip and snap it off. snapping it off is the best option for the fish and even for you  ;D



HOOK - has snapped off his share of springs over the years including two last year

I think the bigger issue would be can your #7 rod handle the tips and large flies with barbell eyes needed to reach down where the fish usually are.
