Title: Fly fishing for Reds

Hey guys,

with the upcoming Red Spring season, I was wondering what you would recommend for flies.

I've gear fished a lot for them but never on the fly.

I will be mainly targeting them on the Vedder/Chilliwack.

big intruders i find are good but as the season for reds winds down u want smaller more fence patterns because every thing has been thrown at them and for big intruders u could really use any thing bright greens and purples wok really well good luck and tight lines

I have also heard of people getting them on purple wooly buggers as well.


I forsee a few hours of fly tying haha.

I hear guys getting them on roe flies fished deep with a gear rod as well  lol

I have always found the reds tough to reach with a fly because they shoot through quickly in the higher water not to mention its really hard to sink  fly to them with high water. This year will be even harder than most  :(

I have intercepted a few over the years on the fly but cant remember what the fly was for the life of me  ::) and it was on years where the river had come down earlier than usual

Haha roe flies definetly work, I was Dans tester last summer  ;D

I have a few spots in mind that produced well last year that I think would be ok to swing a fly or even dead drift.
