Forty nine of the active salmon farms in BC have now come back testing negative for the Infectious Haematopoietic Necrosis (IHN) virus.

The IHN virus is naturally carried by wild Pacific salmon and is low risk to them, but can be a high risk to Atlantic salmon.

Viruses in salmon no problem for humans

A virus in salmon should not be a concern at all.
Every drop of sea water has about 10 million viruses. All foods we eat contain viruses. The specific virus the writer is disturbed about in farm-raised salmon is the same virus found in most wild salmon, especially sockeye. Safe to eat, with no risk to human health.
I hope these facts help the writer feel confident eating B.C. salmon and seafood.

Viruses can be found in practically all of the meat, and even in the vegetables, we buy at local supermarkets.
Does this sound scary? It isn't. Viruses are everywhere, and are part of our natural environment. They are the most abundant form of life on this planet. And almost all of them pose no risk to animal or human health.

Sea lice science ain’t done yet

The science is never done, even if some people think they’ve “figured it out.” And it’s a good thing researchers haven’t given up on researching sea lice in B.C. because we apparently still have an awful lot still to learn.

Okisollo and Hoskyn Channel salmon farm updates: May/June 2012

The latest update regarding salmon farms in Okisollo and Hoskyn channels is now available.
As of the first week of June, five of the nine farm sites in the channels are operating, with one site completing harvest since our last update.

"Conclusions: Sea lice from salmon farms may harm wild salmon, but it’s not certain......"
This is the conclusion that the feedlots have happily reached....... why don't I feel more confident that they actually care about the survival of the wild salmon?? ::)

I do not know what else one would expect. Should she be crying half the time and promote salmon farms via emotional pleading with the public making sky falling predictions based on shoddy science?
To be a good speaker and promoter one should have many contacts and know what the heck one is talking about and know it well.

CTV also aired a brief excerpt on the new found virus on freshwater fishes. They called them wild trouts in the ocean. ??? ??? Most likely we be on the news again tonight.

Yes, and it happens to be the "Norwegian" strain of the virus, and it's been found in a Cultus lake trout.
Not a lot of guessing to conclude that a Cultus lake sockeye swam past an ocean based salmon feedlot, picked up the virus and carried it back to Cultus..... Interesting that CFIA is not planning on testing for that particular virus.
