Title: 2011 Shimano convergence/clarus salmon rods
Post by: noobfisher on March 24, 2012, 09:42:03 PM
Anyone know if these are in stock anywhere local or online yet?  Looking for one of the new 2011 convergence or clarus salmon casting rods.  The few places that I've seen online don't seem to have them in that lengths of 10 +.

Thanks :)

It is 2012 now those would be an older model...no? Riverside had a bunch in stock last time I was in.

According to the wholesale sports website, the convergence and clarus are at 50% off. $40 is cheap!

They don't have the right sizes online for the convergence/clarus models I was looking for :(

Hey are you sure? I see the regular 6 feet clarus and convergence then there is the steelhead and salmon 10 feet convergence. Might be worth calling too incase the website is wrong.

I'm pretty sure I seen a few in-store in those lengths. Besides what they carry in-store compared to whats online is kinda off.

Yeah I was looking for the 10'6 convergences on sale 10-20 lb rated rods (older version), they only have the 10 foot 8-17 pound rated rods online at the sale price.  I went to the Langley store, they have the updated version of the convergence, but priced at just under 100 bucks, probably gonna wait til they put those on sale, trying to fish on a budget  :) seeing as I need a whole outfit.

They don't have any of the older ones on sale there at Wholesale Sports in Langley.  I find with Wholesale what they have online for sale does not correspond to what they price at the store.  The sales guy told me the online price is only for the older version Convergence which they don't stock anymore.  If you show up like I did expecting the sale price you are stuck with the newer model ones at just under 100 bucks.

Kinda annoyed with Wholesale and how they advertise online but when you go to the store you find out its only for an older version or they just don't stock them in the store.  I noticed the US wholesale sports store don't even accept online orders anymore.

Good idea, I'll give that a try.  Thanks.

Post a WTB add in the buy and sell section. If not wait for a sale. That's a nice price on that 10ft. I use that length paired with a Abu 5601 C4. Nice light outfit I can cast all day long. Not sure if extra 1/2 a foot will make a big difference in catching fish. I love this set up for tossing jigs to the chums at the Stave.

P.S. I have a 15% off coupon for A&N that expirees at the end of the month. You're welcome to have it.  :)

I just got a convergence 8-17# 10ft salmon/steelhead rod and went to the island to put it to the test. Awesome rod, really light rod and the battles from those island steelhead was just absolutely amazing on the medium power slow action! The 6 inch differance from my old rod is really unoticable and I highly recommend one of these rods

Thanks for the offer on the coupon, I don't think I'll be able to get down by then 31st though, appreciate the offer though :)

Sounds like a 10 foot is just as good as a 10'6 I'll keep my eyes peeled for a deal out there :)

Found a good price in an 8'6 foot shimano, but is that to short to drift in faster water?

You will struggle trying to get a good drift on larger flows like the lower Vedder.
It would be fine for the upper Vedder or smaller flows.
8'6" makes a good spinning rod for Salmon.

i own a shimano technium, i bought it this year for 189.99

its 10.5 feet in length, lifetime warranty
12-20 lb test
medium fast tip, and its a beautiful salmon rod.

it is similar to the convergence and clarus rods but is built for BC, they named it the technium "west coast edition" and i dont think it sells everywhere
picked it up at hatch matchr in maple ridge :)

hope that helps, its a great rod for the price!
