Title: Protecting the reel seat end

I'm new to fly fishing and just purchased a new 5 weight fly rod.
I want to protect the reel seat end from scratches when the rod end is placed on the ground when I'm threading the line through the guides.
I was thinking of a butt end cap even though it is not made for it but I can not find anything suitable.
What do other fly fisherman do to protect that area of the rod or do you not worry about it?

personally i dont worry about, afterall it doesn't affect performance or looks. Just be carefully about putting your reel in sand and dirt. But i usually set up my rod at home before i go out and put it in the case so i got nothing to worry about.

That's the one part of my rods that is allowed to be beaten up.

What about a thin layer of epoxy or some hard glue that would adhere to the end?

Wear a cap, and put the cap on the ground and put the rod end inside it while threading the line. Dust off cap when finished. Works for me.

Don't place the end of your rod on the ground, then.
Place it on your wading boot. If you have trouble reaching the top guides while threading the line, break down the rod in two sections.

x2.  Set everything up at home so all you have to do when you get to the river is put your rod together and feed out line..

also, get a reel case that fits over your rod/reel setup so anytime you're not fishing it's on.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I ended up purchasing an EVA foam butt cap from Temple Fork Outfitters here in Canada.
Wholesale Sports in Langley also has them but they have been out of stock for a while.

You can usually find a soft patch of grass or moss to put your reel end on when stringing your rod.  If not, put your back pack on the ground and sit your reel on top of the pack.  You can brush the dirt off the bottom of your pack later when it dries to dust.

I always place my rod on the roof of my vehicle. Reel against the windsheild, tip off the back.
