Does anyone know what the prize is this year for first place?
Or is there a list of the prizes somewhere?

Coveted Ferguson Furnell Trophy of course, awarded since 1938.
The winner gets first choice from the prize table. In the past I believe a rod and reel combo is chosen.

i hope its a center pin combo,i need a new one and my name on the ferguson furnell trophy is going to look nice too ;) ;D

I don't think anybody else should bother showing up, because I am going to win...hahaha...suckers!
-
Lol....trash talkers.... I'm fishing for the next couple days...and probably won't be out boxing day. I only ever catch wilds on the 26th anyways... :-[ :D

Mabe I missed it - but the only thing missing is the location of "The Clubhouse".
??

me and my dad will be attending, we fish properly and respect every fish that we find.
after all sure fishing derby makes us dream of the winning fish, but we do not go out of our way to "snag fish" i've watched people poach fish all year.
if you don't like it that much, i would appriciate all this negativity redirected to the government offical responcible for the fisheries.
Good luck to all contenders i'll see you at the clubhouse.
-
damn its early haha, well im off to the club house then to the river in a few, good luck everyone but ima win ;D
-
Good luck everyone in the derby! Just leave some fish for the rest of us

The 68th edition of the Boxing Day Steelhead Derby put on by the Chilliwack Fish and Game Protective Association is now in the books. Steve Schoenfelder of Chilliwack out fished 308 other anglers and took home the kingfish title along with the Ferguson Furnell Perpetual Trophy with his 13.75 lb. beauty.
Condition for the derby were excellent with perfect water conditions and a rain free day for the enjoyment of the many anglers out on the flow, some trying out their new equipment they received for Christmas. Other good news was that a good number of wild fish were reported being landed as well the usual reports of good sized hatchery fish being lost too.
A total of 14 fish were brought to the scales by the 2 pm deadline. All 14 fish were in prime condition and were the envy of many who had no success and by non fishers who as well that took in the presentations. Many excellent prizes were donated by many local businesses as well as the game club.
Fish Tails
The first fish to hit the scales was at 8:42, a 9.91 pounder caught by Ernie Schepnowsky. Schepnowsky's fish was only 8 minutes ahead of the second fish to be weighed in, a 6.41 lb fish at 8:50.
The smallest fish was only 5.12 pounds making the derby list by a few ounces.
At least 2 members of this forum caught a fish, Tom and Ryan.
Pictures and video of the results to follow.

As always had a great time participating in the derby. 8th year and still yet to weigh in a fish but there's always next year :P river was in great shape, little low but vis. around 4 ft. Got into a small wild about 7-8 pounds early in the am and thought I was in for a heck of a day but no dice. Did manage to land a nice resident rainbow as well about 16 inches or so. Also missed a couple of hard takedowns. Was a great day and the rain was nice enough to hold off, watch out next year guys, I'm do ;D
