so i just recently discovered a small local pond that i could see the bass close to shore and saw a few guys fishing it with fly rods and i would love to get out and do some fishing for an hour or 2 on some days cuz the pond is only 5 mins from my house so im wondering what kind of flies work good for bass, there not huge bass but i did see a couple decent size fish and i was suprised that they were that big for the size of the pond.
wondering if some flies that i would use for trout would work like small leech patterns?

hey devon where abouts is this pond second try poppers and leaches i know galilee has sone nice mice paterns and you can try minnow patterns also

Can these fly's be trolled around or do they always have to be stripped fast to instigate a bite?
If fishing poppers the take would probably be quite a site!!!

micro leeches, small nymphs, black gnats and a skeeter pattern work well lately... you might able to hook into a carp if there feeding, most ponds in the lower-mainland have em... similar to a chrome chum in the stave, now that's one hell of a fight..

I find too much credit is given to the big Deerhair patterns. In the last issue if Fly Tyer Mag the three top world record holder showed their #1 goto patterns: modified Clouser #2, simple Wine Cork Popper, and a Size 1 black Wooley Bugger with a rubber jig tail tied in.
My personal best was 7Lb on one of my Dolly Whackers tied in size 4 2x long.
