Title: How Have You Found The Grouse Hunting This Season, 2009
Post by: chris gadsden on September 19, 2009, 05:32:17 AM
Was able to get out for the opening again this year and had better success this year than last year and over 3 days was able to bag 13 birds, a mixture of blues and willow. Has anyone else found it to be a fair season so far?

I have been out once in the Princeton area and limited out quickly on ruffed and blue grouse; there seems to be a lot more this year than last? One of the blues was exceptionally large, it was double the size of the  others.

outstanding guys !

My brother has been scouting in the Okanagan area and has nothing but good things to say....at least double the number of birds around from last year.   It's going to be a great season if I can get out!!!!! :)

Just got back from PG and there are lots of grouse around. Didn't seem to be more than last year though.

How do you cook yours Chris?

I am old fashion and pluck the bird as I feel it helps keeps the juices in when I bake them. I also like to fry them after mixing flour and sunny boy cereal in a bag and shaking the birds in this mixture. I picked up 4 more birds, 2 blues and 2 willows last week while deer hunting.

Do you fry up the whole bird, or pieces of it?

I'm sure leaving the skin on will make it more moist.

How did the deer hunting go?

When frying I just cut them in half. Saw no deer but  I am learning the area, will make another trip shortly and try another area.

Sure nice though to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Valley that is growing too much for me. :(

A blue enjoyed tonight, just as good as the willow was last week.

4 Grouse for me, my beagle managed to flush them all successfully, with only a few that she spooked too far ahead!
(only hunted one day) fished the my cabin lake and the similkameen on the others (couldn't get anything but whitefish out of the similk!!!! which was a first!
