anyone seeing any bears while fishing?
-
I'm curious - why do you ask?
-
Because it's Spring Bear season ;)
And Bear sausage is yummy ;D
Heard of one up high already this year.....
Havn't seen one myself yet :)
-
seen a few tracks the other day fishing on the vedder, decent sized too.. i figure another 2 weeks and it will be game on.
-
There has been some grizz prints around on the lower Cheakamus :o. Lots of black bear crap around too.
-
bear sausage :P
I was speaking to a guy yesterday that said he was seeing atleast one bear a day in or around the Chilliwack River, he was fishing the Chehalis River.
-
"bear sausage :P "
So what do you do with the Bear? Chintzier? I think it's a good thing that the Bears are afraid of humans through hunters. I had my run in with the wild bunch and it's better if they have been hunted. Sometimes fifteen twenty bear right outside the tent. :o Otherwise expect every once in a while, more often, someone gets chowed down. Especially if they smell spicey.
-
15 or 20 outside your tent? hahaha
-
Went out looking for bears today, in the lower mainland lots of driving and walking but no bears today. still a little too early i think
-
saw 2 the other day, looked like a sow and her cub...didn't bother with getting trigger happy.....gotta let em fatten up on grass and corn first for best meat quality!
-
about a month ago i went up to salmon arm with my uncle
just above where the tollbooth was on the oppositte slope i saw a big black bear
it wasnt a stump

I'm sure everyone knows that the best way to deter bears in the wild is to wear little bells around your neck and carry pepper spray.......
However you may not know how to identify the difference between bear scat (poop) and grizzly scat...
Here's a quick lesson.....
Black bear scat is usually full of semi digested berries.....
Grizzly scat is usually full of little bells and smells like pepper spray ;D

im gonna try this weekend again
-
Yah i figure that im prolly going to be going out again on sunday. different area this time.... Hopefully I can come across something .. just to scope one would be a nice feeling. not quite sure if im going to take one this year or not, but i do like looking for them.
-
Bears are waking up around my house in Mission here; lot's of sightings by quads up in the hillls. Going scouting this weekend.
-
i just got home from Vancouver Island, i hunted Saturday around Nanamio River, Cowichan Lake..etc areas and didnt see a single bear track, poop or a bear for that matter. The locals say its a late spring.
-
was out again today in the lower mainland, I didnt see one but I ran into someone who did see one. Hopefully it picks up soon
-
im thinking 2 more weeks and we'll be into bears...
-
I usually wait until late May early June. I find the bears are the dumbest then as the males walk up and down the FSRds not thinking about anything other then a female ready to go into heat. Also they have put a bit of weight on by then, and their coats aren't too bad either.
-
Just got off the phone with my buddy from the island.. They hunted the back side of lake cowichan eariler this week and arrowed 2 blackies, one at 4 yard the other at 27 yard...

i think this weekend it will be really good, all the sun we had and rain now
-
The bears are definetly out and about around Harrison and up the Lower Coq. Just have to know where to look.
-
havent tried there yet, i was back in Kamloops and saw 2, one was a 3hr hound chse, bear got away. the other was a 3-4foot bear. Way to small!
It seems the areas i hunt at this times years previous arent really that green right now!...? no real bear sign, the deer are out thats for sure

Saturday evening we drove past a bunch of cattle and a few hounds lite up, here we are giving the hounds cupcakes and then the cattle freak out start running off leaving what we thought was a calf. It was a young 4ft-4.5 bear that was curious about all the baying. I took out Boone and told him to get him get him het him...the bear barley made it to a tree.

My two buddies got a really nice cinnamin yesterday.
While they were cleaning it they had another larger bear walk up (theirs was probs 200? pnds already).
They were going to down it as well, but they only had the car with them so they decided against it. ;D
Might add a a pic later.
