Title: 2008/09 FWR Hockey Pool
Post by: DionJL on September 24, 2008, 06:15:01 PM
A few of us on the forum have taken part in a Hockey Pool through Yahoo Sport for the past few years. However, due to the fact that few of you visit the Sports Chat section of the forum I figured it would be best to inform you here, through the General Discussion.

The active thread in Sports Chat can be viewed here: http://www.fishingwithrod.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=18606.0 (http://www.fishingwithrod.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=18606.0)

Basic instructions for joining our League involve creating a Yahoo account if you do not already have one here: http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/ (http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/)

Use the "Sign Up" link at the top of the page.

Once registered and logged in go to this page: http://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo.com/hockey/register/joinprivateleague_league_select?.scrumb= (http://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo.com/hockey/register/joinprivateleague_league_select?.scrumb=)

League ID#: 1527
League Password: steelhead

Then follow the instruction to create a profile and team name. You will then be turned to a page that explains the scoring break-down and other custom rules of the league.

Throughout the season you will have to check back regularly to ensure you have a full playing roster, and that none of your players are injured. Others who have been in the league before should be able to help with basic instructions on how to maintain your team.

There is no wager or cost to join. This is just for bragging rights ;D

If you're interested please join as the league is limited to 12 teams. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Yes, please let us know who is responsible for each team. If your email is not visible or doesn't contain your name or handle it's hard for us to know.

When does everyone want to do the draft. If you guys could give me some input as to when you want it scheduled that would be good. If you don't voice when you want it you can' complain later on...

Sorry guys, I've been really busy lately. I know we've missed a few games so far...but how does tuesday night sound for a draft.

I'll have to make sure my roster pick list is up to par. I'll probably be out fishing. If you could set the pick time around 8:30 that would make it more likely for me to make it.

Oh, I have a couple Buddies that want it. One of them being J Trussler that just joined the site.  If they get in tonight it's still all good right?

Everything is set. Please look over the league settings so you know the scoring setting I'm not going to make any changes this late.

Sounds good Dave, get them signed up. Lets make this a competitive league.

Biff, I like everything in the rules except the 20 max. roster changes.  Everytime someone has an injury, and you have to make a move to fill the spot, you use up a roster move.  Heck the Canucks had more than 20 roster moves last year.  I think it should be set at 50 like last year, with no max games per postion.  That worked pretty good.

Ok I just joined.... Never done anything like this before

Can someone give me a heads up on how to draft, etc.  ???
Title: Re: 2008/09 FWR Hockey Pool
Post by: Big Steel on October 06, 2008, 09:17:36 PM
Just show up at draft time, when it is your turn to select a player, you do so.  Pretty easy.  You'll figure it out no problem. :)

Ok, just make sure you guys get logged in. We're starting in less than 5 min.

Go to the league page then click on the draft central tab. On the right hand side there will be a big blue box that says 'launch draft application'. Click on this and it will take you into the draft room.

Just a reminder to everyone that is participating to remember to set your daily roster changes. If you don't have time to check on a daily basis you can make the changes for a few days in advance.

How do you put players on injury reserve?  I saw an IR option at beginning of draft....
Title: Re: 2008/09 FWR Hockey Pool
Post by: Sterling C on October 12, 2008, 08:44:17 AM
If the guy has the letters IR in red beside his name then he is injury reserve eligible. To put him on the IR drag him down to the bottom of your roster and an IR spot will appear.

Hey guys, take a look at your maximum amount of moves allowed. Some of you are going through them a little fast... :-*

People should really start watching their rosters. You can set your roster once a week and save yourself some time. Drop players that aren't producing or are injured.

Ya trying to dump an injured Osgood on me. Nice try. If you were smart you would have made it seem like a worth while trade b/c i didn't hear about Osgood's injury until after I rejected.

I sent one back. A trade that was much more fair than your offers. You rejected of course.  ::)

Hey Dion, I think we are gettin a bit closer to a trade though....  You can have Lecavalier for Backstrom if you throw in Turco for someone.... I apparently now have 2 injured goalies so.....

Fishing information? LOL He knows his team is **** and he wont win so he's trading his decent players for something he can actually use. I'll trade you anyone you want if you want to give me something worth while. I accept cash, fishing gear, and alcohol. LOL

I kinda wish I had read the rules at the beginning and not made so many useless moves...I'm afraid to make any trades now with a string of injuries.
DMW wanna trade Pekka Rinne for Zetterberg?!? He'll lead the league with 10 shutouts by the end of season, I swear  ;) ;D :D

How's that for a shake up in the League.....I am glad I didn't make some of them trades and what is up with my free agent goalie pick up Mason.... I have had him for 10 games and he has 8 wins and 4 shutouts!!!  I don't expect it to last though... but it's nice to be challenging for teh lead again after being down almost 600 points earlier in the year!! ;D

Yah I definitely didn't see you coming up from behind. I was focused on catching Biff. O well. Kane was out for a few games and Heatley (and his team) have been on a slump so I should hopefully be getting some more points.

Hockey pool sure is getting tight. Four teams all at the top!

Although it was a good effort to catch up, you guys aren't taking the lead from me!  :-*

Yah, what ever. I've been the dominating team of late. My problem is I am lacking players on teams that are struggling for a playoff spot.

From the bottom to the top!! and it took almost exactly 1 full season  ;D :D.  It got really tight there at the end, and probably would have been even closer had everyone stuck with it.  Dion...I'm glad you didn't have a computer close by  ;D.  Good game guys, hopefully see you guys out on the flow in the future.

Hey, good season. I think second place is my best performance so far. You'll have to take part next year Fisherama, then we can cut people like Roe Kid who don't check their rosters and just tie up the good players.
