Hi~ Fellas!!
Can any one consult me the guide size and spacing for rod building??!!
I'll get Lami 12feet 3 piece blank soon for cp rod, and 'm thinking 12 guide and tip top.
Please share some good idea~!!
Thanks in advance guys~!!

I have never built a rod in my life (except to cut down a rod for ice fishing), but I have read an article that suggests placing the guides using rubber bands and then trying different spacing until you find a good match for your casting.

Check out this site. Tons of good info:

when building a rod with eyelets on the bottom of the blank (ie spinning, CP, etc) then guide spacing is not nearly as critical. Consider that guides threads and epoxy add weight, I recomend not using any more than neccesary.
Put the guides on with tape or rubber bands and then load the rod up and look at the bend and how the line tracks along the blank.
My lami (2 piece 11.5') has 11 guides and tip top.

I once used a custom 10'6 baitcaster that i was lent, it had 14 including the tip and the fight was alot smoother than usual, for 11foot rod i would say 13,14,15 guides should be alright.

Just set up my Sage 4120 for the Thompson and counted the guides...same as what you figured 12 plus the tip top.

Hi Bravo,
Give this a try,
4.25 - 9 - 14.25 - 20.25 - 26.75 - 33.875 - 41.125 - 49 - 58 - 67.875 - 82.875 - 104.875 in inchs starting from tip. Once tapped in place let me know the measurement from center of the reel seat to the first guide. Contact me at info@valleycustomrods.com and we can make any adjustments if needed. I hope this helps.
Regards,
Mark
