Title: Alouette Cleanup & BBQ Jan 27/07
Post by: bbronswyk2000 on January 01, 2007, 04:40:27 PM
So how many would be interested in a BBQ after the cleanup?

I was thinking that we have a time to meet after the cleanup say noon and have a BBQ at Maple Ridge Park afterwards. It would be much better than just doing a cleanup and leaving. Maple Ridge Park has some picnic tables and enough room to hold all of us.

If you are interested please post that you will be attending and what you can bring.

I can bring a BBQ and I will bring some smokies, buns, condiments and some beverages.

Dunno bout you but I am gonna be fishing after the cleanup, if we are finished by noon that leaves approx four hours of fishing before the sun sets :)

Its not going to take 4 hours to cleanup. Everyone will have a designated section of the river to clean and it should not take more than 2 hours to cleanup. That would still give you 2 hours of fishing time. Thats what I plan on doing.

I`ll go, but I need to hook up with someone who knows the river. I`ve only driven by it on my way to the lake.

Cheers

I'm following you around, my back yard borders on the alouette river, and I would love to see if fished successfully in the winter.

p.s. I'm sending you an e-mail that might make your BBQ a little easier.

I'll say "maybe" - if I have my car by then, yes - I have never been there though and would need directions - keep me in the lets see group.

Wish I could - spent many hours on the river (and in that park) before moving to Langley but have my kids that weekend and they have plans that can't get broke.... I'll head up to the chilliwack clean up tho...

Take care and have fun!

***UPDATE***

Just got off the phone with a gentleman from the Maple Ridge News. He will be doing a story on our cleanup. They are going to send a photographer at noon to take some photos. So please make sure you are all back at the park  by 11:45am so we can get our story out there.

Thanks
Bryan

The cleanup info can be found in this thread:

Make sure you vote at the top so organizers have an idea on how many are attending.

Good to hear about the news article BB. Perhaps a pre-event article can also be panned out, which would definitely draw out some keen volunteers. When the Chilliwack River cleanup was first organized in 2002, Chris and others were featured in some articles before the cleanups, which draw out some interests locally. Definitely keep the non-fishers in the loop too, as fishermen only make up a small % of the volunteer force. Most of the volunteers who attend the Chilliwack River cleanup are not fishermen. This doesn't necessarily represent poor stewardship value in the sportfishing community, it simply indicates that fishermen only make up a small portion of the general public, which is true.

Looking forward to hear more good progress.

Cheers

Nuggy

Hey Brian is the clean up on the Alouette still a go. Should be a beautiful day. My daughter is actually dragging her butt out of bed on a saturday before noon to join me on the clean up. The areas that I was fishing today where actually pretty clean. What a difference compared to the veddar. Mind you the veddar does get alot more fishing pressure.

Was out today(jan 25) doing some exploring on the river and I did come across a bbq. So we may need a truck to haul that away. Brian I will let you know where the bbq can be found.
