Title: 12 Year Contract
Post by: small_fish on September 12, 2006, 10:13:08 PM
I heard on the radio that some team in the NHL is signing a goalie for 12 years, I think thats pretty stupid. I did'nt get to catch the team or goalies name, cause i was listening to my ipod

The Islanders signed Rick Dipietro to a 12 year $67.5 million contract.

its actually 15yrs at $4.5Million/yr

My question is where is the incentive to play well? He's locked in making that much money. If he (and goalies can definatly do this) takes them to the cup or takes them to last place he still makes 4.5 million per year. Why give that extra little bit putting your body on the line (other than personal satisfaction)?

It is 15 years like Dion said and not 12. If you were him would you say no? That organization was great and since Charles Wang took over it has gone down hill. I mean he signed Garth Snow on as the GM and he has not even had any experience outside of just playing hockey. Thats how much this guy knows. He signed Neil Smith as the GM first and fired him before the season even started, than Snow took over. DiPietro is laughing all the way to the bank.

The problem the Islanders have is he can now never be traded.

Can't blame Dipietro for signing the contract. You would be a complete fool to turn down that amount of money. That contract is guaranteed.

Wow It's 15 YEARS!!! Thats just bad for the team, to sign a star goalie, and not even knowing for long term inguries or he starts to lose his skill
And 1.5 for Kelser
This game is starting to be just for the money AGAIN

Think 15 is bad? Wayne's first contract with the oilers was a 21 year deal worth approx 800K per year. Needless to say it was later re-negotiated.

Its actaully 1.9 for Kessler, which kinda screws over the Canucks b/c there is no way he is worth that. Before Bob Clarke crawled out from whatever rock he lives under, the Canucks and Kessler were just finishing up on a two year deal worth about 840K per year.

Ok the thing that really gets me is that the Canucks let Anson Carter slip away, but they are willing to pay this much for Kessler and he hasn't even come close to proving he is worth it yet !!!  At least Carter found the back of the net with consitency.... sometimes makes me wonder if Nonis has any brain cells left !!!!! ::)
