Glad to see we have a few people who are interested. I propose that everyone puts in some sort of fishing related prize ~$10

O, I just remembered no one else would want them anyway. ;D ;D

I wouldn't mind some of the make beliefs on my team if we were playing in the dynasty or carry over league. Everyone knows that the potential is there and that once they get traded to other teams for injury prone 60 year olds I'll be laughing.

Post by: Sterling C on August 31, 2006, 08:58:22 AM
So have we finialized any details yet? When are we having a draft, before preseason or after? What type of league are we doing, one season, carryover, dynasty? and what sort of scoring system are we going to use?
Title: Re: FISHING WITH ROD HOCKEY POOL
Post by: stinkytroutboy on September 04, 2006, 09:14:57 PM
Yes someone like rod should set it up on office pools .com and have a live draft in the chat room
Title: Re: FISHING WITH ROD HOCKEY POOL
Post by: jettabambino on September 04, 2006, 10:42:09 PM
well then everyone would have to be subscribers unless Rod wants to open the gates for a one night draft...

i say we pick after the pre season and everyone puts in5 bucks towards the winner getting a FWR subsciption paid for... or free renewal..(if thats ok with Rod)
and we have to send in a 10 fishing item.....so be it weights ..a drennan or otherthings.... what do you guys say....

I'd personally be more stoked on everyone putting some sort of fishing related prize into a pool. It would definitly be a good way to share something something fishing related. For example, if someone makes some wicked roe then they could submit that. I personally tie some pretty awsome chronies which I wouldn't mind submitting. etc etc.

As for pools, I can set up a free yahoo pool We'll just have to get everyone to register and be around for a draft date. I personally would like to hold the draft before the pre-season mostly b/c it involves more skill to be able to draft quality players without having seen them and their linemates perform.

Title: Re: FISHING WITH ROD HOCKEY POOL

sure sounds good... i dont make anything by home at all... so i would most likely get some hooks or some floats .... but yah.. i am in for sure... sounds cool...

do we need to register with yahoo for this...
Title: Re: FISHING WITH ROD HOCKEY POOL
Post by: THE_ROE_SLINGER on September 06, 2006, 09:15:09 PM
Alrighty lets do it, lets start finalizing some rules, In order to enter you must submit some sort of fishing related item, whether it is, Hooks, floats, flies, leader, ect. Now for the draft date. What days cant you guys do it????
Title: Re: FISHING WITH ROD HOCKEY POOL
Post by: bbronswyk2000 on September 06, 2006, 09:46:08 PM
I am in. Why dont we set one up on Yahoo? I could set it up as I have been running a couple of the for quite a few years on yahoo. Just let me know and I will set it up. We can do a live draft on Yahoo one night, its a live draft right on the site. Just need to setup a time.
Title: Re: FISHING WITH ROD HOCKEY POOL
Post by: jettabambino on September 06, 2006, 11:05:16 PM
just give me plenty of notice.. and after 10 pm is preferred.... we can all go in a chatroom in yahoo and do our draft....

lets also work out the rules... do we pick three forwards and 2 defenders...

Another way i have done it is by comming up with a player roster and we have to pick from the roster...

not sure how we decide who goes first.. maybe we should all get together for a few brews at a pub and go from there... hmmm... your thoughts boys and gals..

Post by: bbronswyk2000 on September 07, 2006, 07:31:28 AM
Dont need to go into a chatroom on Yahoo. The Yahoo fantasy leagues have their own live draft right from the leagues website. It has all the players available and you just pick the player you want from the menu when its your turn.

I'll set up a league on Yahoo tonight and pass on the link to join. Everyone that wants to compete please use your FWR username so we know who has joined.

I've ran pools in the past as well. What scoring system are we going to use? I personally prefer offence orientated leagues. More fun, plus I don't have to spend as much time crunching save %'s, +/-'s and pims.

OK the league is set.
League name is: Fishing with Rod
Password is:fwr

Go to the following link: http://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo.com/hockey/

Click Get Team
Click  Join Existing Custom or Public League
Click Join a Custom League

Than enter in league name and password. I made it a 12 team league so hurry and get in on it. Also the draft date is Feb 12th at 8:45PM which was the latest time I could get on the league. Go to the league page about 30mins prior to the draft and click on launch draft.

Good Luck

Title: Re: FISHING WITH ROD HOCKEY POOL
Post by: bbronswyk2000 on September 08, 2006, 03:59:59 PM
OK their are two teams that do not have their FWR nickname in them. You MUST have your nickname in your team name so we know who everyone is. We dont want outsiders getting into the league. This is the only way to prevent that. You can change your team name in your controls.

Log in using your yahoo ID than you will be logged in. On the day of the draft a link will appear on the league site where you click it and it will bring you into the draft.

If so i'll do up a few Nice looking steelhead flies. Even if you don't fish them they're nice to look at. or i can donate a float like everyone else :P

Yeah, and I have no idea whatsoever what I am doing!!  So it should be fun for all!! ;D  I would say good luck to everyone, but it seems as though I am the one that will need it.  I still have no idea if you can select your own payers, or it it does it automayically one what you have pre-selected.  Or how many players( goalies, forwards od d-fence) I have asked a couple times, but no one wants to answer me!! ???
Anyhow whatever.

It's shots on goal. Thats kinda lame.

Players get points for shots on goal. Not lame at all. I have always played with this stat in every hockey league I have been involved with. Should have read these things before the draft.....

Now that the dust has settled, who do you guys think has the best team? I'm playing fairly high risk/reward with my team. A lot of second year players who are primed to break out.

To be honest everybodies team except Roekids and Big Steels looks good!! Roekid made some terrible choices :)
and Bigsteel is loaded with second and third line players.. anyone can win this thing now except for the two mentioned above   ;D ;D.. it depends on good weekly management and a lot of luck !!!
Title: Re: FISHING WITH ROD HOCKEY POOL
Post by: Sterling C on September 13, 2006, 12:23:49 PM
I agree that we should be taking into account shots, however, I feel as though we should scale down the points for shooting ie one pt every 10 shots rather than a point per shot as it is.

Yeah, I noticed that one a bit late!! ;D

But I am in the same boat as Biff!!  High risk, but high reward as he put it!!  I know that some of my picks were high risk, but I am going on who they are playing with now, and what team they are on now.  I dropped a couple of duds, so we'll see what happens.  But yeah, I don't really like my chances, my risks had better pay off!! ;D

i agree with biff. One shot on goal should not be worth the same as on assist or half a goal. Also, does a shutout count for a 10pt + the win (5pt)?

Big Steel you really hate your team i see. tryin' to trade with everyone.

What does it mean when trade is pending?  Perhaps that the trade is waiting for everyone to vote on it?
PS, I think that the Prucha/Bert trade is a good one for bith, that is why I offered it!  Prucha is one of the players I ddn't really want to let go, he is going to have a great year.  But I wanted to take the chance on Bert and see which Bert actually shows up!! ;)

Their is 2 days before a trade goes through to allow owners to vote. If nobody votes the deal goes through. If more people vote to veto the trade than the trade gets vetoed. It is put in place to stop collusion.

Title: Re: FISHING WITH ROD HOCKEY POOL

It could also stop a trade that has the other teams worried about there chances. ;D  But come on, I had to pull the trigger.  I ain't got much, figured I would take the chance on Bert! :)

BTW: Malkin might be on the block if the price is right!!  If you want this soon to be Superstar, let's see what you got!! ;D

I just calculated the projections for your starters. Keep in mind these are point totals only. So no goalies. Looks like we came out pretty close after drafting, however, in the end it all comes down to who's the best manager.

STB 869
LIL fisherman 818
Got fish 808
IHXC 781
Roe Kid 839
biffchan 913
Big Steel 865
Thick Rick 873
Birdman 831
Eddie 926

Thats not a fair projection considering my first pick was a goalie and you didn't include that.

I would never choose a goalie with my first or 2nd round pick. As long as you have a goalie that is a top 10 goalie you will be fine. As far as how to manage your team, I am not giving away any strategies.

Also Malkin didn't play last year, and my players had some injuries last year.  Like Brierre, Jovo and a few others.  I feel that it should be a good one though!!   We'll have to see how it works out.  I am open to somes trades if anyone is looking!!  Still an area or 2 I would like to address!! ;D

At this time I would like to say that Eddie STILL hasn't done anything about the shot scoring.

I would also like to make it known that when the league was originally set up goals and assists were worth the same amount. This is something that I took into account when I did my pre-draft scouting. Yet after we all drafted Eddie goes behind our backs and then sets its up so that golas are worth 2pts and assists worth 1. I don't have a problem with this scoring system provided that it was the one we were initially going to be using, however, this completly screws some of us over. Especially those of us who did extensive research and calcualtions going into this!  >:(

I have to agree with Biff!!  2 points for a goal and one for an assist is all well and good, but that is not going to work and be fair for everyone.  I am probably shooting myself in the foot, considering that I have a lot of goals scrorers and not that many assist men.  :-\ But, I feel that that should have been voted on.  I know there was mention of things like this on the Hockey home page as well.  That one should be voted on, at least noone will feel that they are getting the short end of the stick!! :)

Originally it was 2. After the draft I was messing around with the numbers to fix the goalie saves and  the goal category changed to one point as everything got put back tp the preset numbers. Not that I really needed to give an explanation as I NEVER lie....

I thought you were in leagues before? If you have you would know these are standard across the board....

All well and good Eddie, but I think what everyone is trying to say, is that we think that the 2 pts for a goal sucks for a lot of people.  Also, that rule was not made clear pre draft.  I think that rule will help me, but I don't like it, and if you look at your team, you are stacked with a ton of goal scorers, and this rule would help you out A LOT.  I think that it should be 1 pt for a goal and 1 pt for an assist.  I have never done a draft any other way and it just doesn't seem right.  Please change it back to 1 and 1 for goals and assists.  Really, if enough people want it that way, you don't have a choice. ;)

I am not changing it back. Dont you think that is the reason I drafted those players? I had 2 points per goal from the begining otherwise I would have drafted differently. If you guys are just going to sit here and call me a liar than just go and find another league. I dont need to sit here and be insulted. Everyone is being very ungrateful and it really puts a damper on the entire experience. Like I said I never lie I teach my kids the same. I have no reason to lie as I dont care if I win or lose. I play in these leagues for the fun and right now it is turning into more of a headache than fun. Oh and just to clear it up RICK, when I tried to change the goalie shots against it reset ALL categories and that will NOT show in the transactions!!!!

BTW I tried to change the shots but the only thing it will allow me to do is give half points and I am not going to make it half points.

Like I said, the 2 pts for a goal would help me out as well, but if you don't care about winning, why are you being so stubborn about changing it back.  I don't think anyone is being immature, just asking about a vailid concern.

PS, I was very nice about the way I put it across, if anything I said is immature, well then so be it and get over it. If that is the worse thing that anyone ever says to you, then you will be a lucky man.   No need to run from a valid concern, you are the league commisioner Eddie.  It is your responsibility to look after matters.  What would be so hard about calling for a vote.  That is fair, if the rule stands then it stands, if it doesn't then it doesn't.  Seems pretty simple to me.

I was afraid this was going to happen. come on guys letws just keep it like it was and maybe have a majority rules vote? Lets be civil and not be a bunch of crybabys starting new leagues and kicking people out. This reminds me of my Grade 2 brother and all hsi friends

All Rick has to do is apologize its not that difficult. When everyone wanted me to change the saves category I did it. As far as the shots on goal for players go I have no control over it unless I remove it which is something I would do if everyone agreed to. I already switched the goals from being 2points to 1point but locked Rick out since he has not apologized.

I am choosing not to participate in the new league or the old league until everyone comes to a decision. Half the guys are going to stick with eddie and a bunch will move on. We don't have enough peope for 2 leagues. And seriously what do we have to lose, Eddie changed the rules back, and if you lose itt'l cost you what? maybe a few flys, a few spinners or a float? Big whoop.

Exactly. I drafted knowing the points for goals was worth 2 points and I still changed it to 1 point since thats what everyone else thought it was. Like I said in a previous post the stats got reset to 1 point when I was messing around with them. I never lied and if more people looked at it when it was 1 point than I guess thats the way they drafted and I accept that. I just want to play and I dont care if I win.

Now for those that choose to participate in this league lets vote on whether to scrap the shots on goal completely or change it to .5 point per shot or even .25point per shot which means you will get 1 point for every 2 shots or 1 point per 4 shots.

After re-reading this thread, going to the gym, eating dinner and then letting it all sink in here is what I have to say:

First off, I feel that it is silly to have to different pools. It does nothing but divide us further which isn't good in the least. That said, I would still participate in a second league, however, I just think one makes more sense.

At this point I'm still not entirley sure what went on. Obviously me and Eddie both have different ideas on what happened. I'm sure that I saw goals and assisits being both worth one point initially. Actually when I first I saw this I thought it looked somewhat funny but didn't say anything. Think about it, why would I pick Lidstrom 10th overall? Anyways, whatever happened we need to find a solution to this problem that works for everyone. After the time/work we put into the original draft, I think its silly to bother re-drafting. If we leave goals as 2pts then it benefits only Eddie, as from this thread he was apparently the only person who counted on this type on scoring system. If we drop goals down to one point it puts Eddie at a disadvantage which isn't really fair as he did set it all up and next to me he probably put in the most time doing research. I have two solutions to this. Either 1.) we keep goals at 2pts but drop the shooting stats this way it still gives Eddie his original edge, however, it does not so strongly effect us who did not draft goal stories. 2.) We just drop this pool and create a new one with a level playing field.
