Title: lower Fraser April 14
Post by: lucky on April 14, 2006, 09:05:22 PM
Did a little bar fishing today on the north arm, fished the last couple hours of the outgoing tide, visability looked to be about 6" if that.  Although it was nice to get a line in the water I didn't get into any bull trout today, but the bites were constant and after about an hour I gave in and changed to a smaller hook and successfully caught and released my first two bullheads of the season :D. which to me is always a good sign that things are starting to happen in the river, and a different season is soon to begin.

since you cant keep bull's, was size of hook should be used to prevent them from swallowing the whole thing?becuase I think im going to use roe.

*Lil Fisherman*, I usual go as big as 2/0. However, even at that size, a small fish (14in.) can also swallow it. That's why I rarely use roe when fishing down here these days. The best you can do would be to pay attention to your rod, and set the hook before the bait is being chewed on for too long. If the hook is stuck quite deep down, best to do is to cut the line and release the fish.

Ok thanks Rod :).
I would'nt usually like to use roe either becuase I would like to save it for salmon.
But I just feel like tossing out something and just relaxing 8)

Rod, What do you use instead of roe? And if roe, do you use "gobs", bags, or individual eggs?

druid - want do to some bar-fishing this year...

Sorry, wasn't clear in my previous post. I'll rephrase it.

I usual go as big as 2/0. However, even at that size, a small fish (14in.) can also swallow it. That's why I rarely use roe bait when fishing down here these days.

When I do use roe, I use a chunk, sometimes I tie the chunk into a bag. Never individual eggs, those are saved for the Vedder etc.
