Got to the River at 6:45 am Sunday morning... we sat and waited for the light to shine... started fishing around 7:15 or so... I was using some beauty chum roe bags I had made up...and of course I had my brand new Drennen Zeppler with that beautiful Canucks sticker!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D Myself and a freind were flogging the bottom half of the run pretty good he was using shrimp and wool and I was using roe..I was fishing quite close to shore and then further and further out and then back again... my line was drifting nicely about 20 feet out from shore..I was daydreaming and thinking of what combo I was going to try next... ::) ::)hmmm Jensen egg maybe???? as I am dreaming away my float shoots straight down... I immediately set the hook and I am rewarded with that awesome headshake I have been dreaming of!!!!!!!! ;D ;D Fish On!!!.... this beautiful doe breaks water 3-4 times .. and I can feel that she has a lil weight to her...after the accrobatics are over she decides to shoot straight downstream.. so I apply as much pressure as I dare with my 8 pound leader..she finally responds to my pulls about fifty feet below me and comes into a nice slow area close to shore..as I walk close to her I see that she is a hatchery.. now I have a decision to make... if I keep this fish my day is over at 7:30 am.... but this is my first steel of the year.. and I haven't been on the flow since Jan 1st... plus the fact that she is full of great roe..and she is clean as heck and around 12 lbs... I decide to retain her ..... all good she is a beauty.... so the rest of my day was spent watching my friends fish some beautiful water.. I was surprised how slow a day it was for most people.. all in all we saw three fish bonked including mine and one fish lost and one wild safely released...

See what happens when you are a body builder? ;) The fish in your hero shot always looks like a minnow. ;D ;D ;D

oh, 8lbs test leader, somebody use 12 - 15 lbs test leader ?

I generally use 10 -12 lb leader for steelhead.....I changed to 8 lb today cause the water was very clear..maybe it was the difference..who knows??

Since I was there with him and he used my scales to weigh the fish, (although come to think of it, I actually didn't see the scale reading. I just took his word. :o)
I can honestly say that Thickrick said it was 12lbs when we were on the river. Looks like it went up a half pound since! :o Nice centrepin by the way. Looks just like the one belonging to another guy I know. ;)
-
thanks for having my back Merc ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) inflation made it go up 1/2 pound ......
-
easily in the 12 lbs range... this was a 9.25 pounder and look at the girth difference when theyre beside the rods

Nice fish and report. However I find it difficult to believe a fish as nice as this would get that near a Canuck Drennan. ;D ;D ;D
