Following a late lunch I was debating whether to head out to buy some groceries or head off to my favourite flow. I decided that leftover chicken cordon bleu is not a bad idea for tonight's supper so I gathered my fishing tackle and headed out. Arrived at favourite run and found one angler flogging the water so I decided to head downstream of him to take advantage of the high tide. The water was in perfect condition with approximately 5 feet visibility. I decided to start off using one of my homemade jigs. Four minutes in, my float hesitated as it was swinging across the tailout. I struck, saw a flash and it was gone. :( I was very disappointed and hope that the steelhead will give me another chance. Twenty minutes later I had another strike but missed it again as I was watching a bunch of joggers going by. The excellent weather today brought out a lot of joggers and hikers. Guess alot of people had the 24 hour flu today. ;) I switched over to roe bags. Ten minutes later I had a vicious take down. I struck and saw an approx. 10 lb. steelhead shaking his head in the clear flow. After several head shakes the hook came loose. :( Three steelheads in one hour and I lost of them. Damn Vision hooks

Hey FA, it's not all that bad!! I did the same thing over the weekend!! ::) But you are getting into them, you know that they're there, that is a reason for optimism!! ;D ;D
-
Nice report but time to switch to gamakastu hooks.
Also a Maple Leaf logo on your float will help you as the fish looks and admires it for a few seconds when they pull it down, giving you a better hook set. ;D ;D ;D

Didn't work for you today ;D ;D

yup, i second the gammies, BUT... I've been using the newer #1 barbless gammies on my prawn rigs for the past 2 or 3 trips and i'm wondering if that's why i keep getting poor hooksets on some of the fish as they have a different hook shape than standard barbed gammies..... gonna go back to pinchin and filing my barbs down, I'm not one to muck with things that have worked for me for years ;D

I do not want to get a fish everyday or it could start going to me head and get me thinking that I am a "New Master " in the making. ;D ;D ;D

FA congratulation to a nice steelhead day with 3 hookups in 1 hr. Looks like that the steelies in the flow you have targeted are coming back in force. Hope it is a good omen for a nice upcoming coho season there.

how's it going FA nice to hear that you had them on i just swapped over to the DNE hooks so far i think their great but i've only brought home one fish with them, but fairly cheap and decient quallity
-
I'm going to give DNE's a try after I finish using my 7 remaining Visions
-
I think the fish actually looks at the make beliefs logo and can't believe that there are still misguided souls out there...the confusion caused towards the fish allows you time to set the hook.... :D at least thats what I think ;D
-
hey thick tich im with you, how much does a 25 pack of DNE hooks cost?
-
I think you folks are trying to save money in the wrong dept.
Hooks are the most important thing when it comes right down to it.
Dont be so cheap and go buy some Gamakatsu,s. ;D

I totally agree...no price is too small for a damn fine hook... but them again... ask the folks who know me hehehe I'm a gear slut LOL 8)
