Title: After That First Steelhead, Vedder Dec. 29th
Post by: chris gadsden on December 29, 2005, 05:28:47 PM
Got out on the Vedder at 12 and fished one run at Lickman Road but nothing. A few other anglers on both side of the river. Talked to three anglers and one had taken a wild fish.

Then moved up and fished some good water above the Crossing but no fish there but did pick up a nice drennan float in a log jam. ;D

To end the day checked out the area on the left bank in the Peach Road area but did not find that much good water. The visibility was close to 2 feet I guess.

An enjoyable day anyway and got some exercise as I must have walked about 4 miles in the 4.5 hours I fished. Am now 0 for 4 trips.

Yes it is sure nice to find them, the drennan was the only float I found today and I covered a lot of river. I have a good supply now ;D ;D, and yes I have never bought one. To costly as well for a person on a pension. Also found a couple of $'s of beer tins that will buy an extra large double double at Tim's. ;D

If I could have only found a steelhead it would have been a perfect day. Anyone else get out today as it  is always good to hear everyone's report succesful or not.

yea i got out to a local flow and it was perfect conditions ;D i got there around 730 and fished a whole, then i met up with some friends and walked most of the river and didnt get a bite .

so we drove to a new spot and started to fish and we spread out and 10 min in i start to here swearing coming from down river. I looked and he had missed the hook set, so he cast there again and notin.

So it goes to say, always watch your float and dont day dream.

we had no other luck during the rest of the day

Hardly any rain last night in Chilliwack so river should be in good shape today. Unable to get out unless for the last hour as doing a volunteer shift at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.

Slight overcast and about 6 degrees at the moment. Should hear some positive reports today I would think.

Chris, you should check out under the keith wilson bridge..on the yarrow side, we were below the bridge on weds. after the monsoon as we were coming back from above and just checking out the river. My buddy had to piss so we pulled off and under it..ANYWAYS,  the point of this is, there is about ten feet of line hanging from the middle down above the water there must be 50 floats and spoons,,no more like a hundred hanging from it..i couldn't figure a way to get out to it and it was way to far to try and grab with my fly line...but it's like a jewel waiting to be plucked!! ;)

Thanks for the tip but is a bit dangerous to go out there until the water drops. After my shift at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve today I went for a look to check the river conditions. They looked perfect by the way. Heard reports of at least 4 fish and I am sure there was more and will await Big Steel's report. ;D

Checked a small log jam and recovered 5 floats including a No4  Zeppler 24 gram drennan and  No3 piker 20 gram. ;D

No marking that would identify them as FA's. ;D ;D ;D

Thanks very much but I have found 3 in the last two days and now have a dozen. More people use them all the time so find a lot more now. ;D ;D I was an early user of them and told anglers how nice they were to fish with so more people started to use them including the Master hence more users equals more lost. ;D ;D ;D

Can't beat the Drennan that's for sure. I have been fishing them from their arrival in BC. Brian from West Coast tackle was the first tackle store in BC to carry them. His customers from the UK told him about them. He had them two years ahead of Freds, Hubbs, etc.. :o. I have been fishing them ever since Brian put me on them years and years and years ago.
If fishermen don't dredge the bottom, they will find a Drennan can last a long time. :o

Now that I mention it, I should thank Biffchan for picking one of mine up for me off of the flow the other day. I didn't want to walk in his water to get it. ;D Damn big pockets! ;D

I have done several tests with them ( I am a bit of a obsessed fisherman  ;D who likes to experiment with tackle and bait.) I put them up to tests against balsa, and cork floats. They beat the heck out of both of them by far!! The close second is the balsa for sensitivity and weight support capabilities.

Tight lines!

Yes thanks for the reminder, I will have to put one on for tomorrow's trip. It certainly will get me a fish.
