Hit the river at first light today. The water was up a bit and colored. I would say that the vis was around 2 ft and thats being very generous. Fished for several hours with rubber worms, roe and gooey bobs. My gooey bob got rocked on the second run of the day. Float shot down over a foot, I set the hook and felt something solid shake back. The fish took to the surface and began thrashing and showed its chrome sides. Before I could id it, it spat the hook and was back on its merry way. It was a bit of a let down to loose this fish seeing as it hit so hard and I was using my new owner hooks but hey, stuff happens. That was it for action for the day and I no one I talked to had anything to report. Hopefully the rain lays off a little so I can get back out onto the river again.

I'll second Biff an the water.  Maybe 2 feet vis max!!  Was forced to the upper river, didn't get to fish one of my favorite runs, no vis down river!!  But, was enough clarity up river for a big pink worm!!!  So on it went!!!  Made a few casts over to some softer water, on the third cast, float got sucked down like a slurpee in July!!  Set the hook, felt what I thought were my first bonafide steely shakes of the year!!   After a rather spunked yet short fight, I saw that I had brought my first steely of the year to hand.  Not big, but a real nice starter fish!!  About a 5-6lb wild doe!!  So after she gently slide back to the depths, I figured that I would work the inside seem for a little while and let the other water calm down a bit, just in case there was another one that might be spooked now!!  30 min of nothing, I decided to go back and work that water where the first one was.  Well, nothing else bit my gear, but three times, a big chrome something, came up and slammed my float!! :o :o This all happened over a period of about maybe 10 min!!  I have never seen that before, but I took it as a sign of an aggressive fish!!  So, I shortened right up, like I mean right up, shortened my leader to about 1 foot and tried to see if I could get this beast to come out for another attack, but alas, I didn't see him again.   :'(  The water when I left looked like it might have been clearing up a bit, but I guess that will depend on the temp and the rain!!  Hoping it gets a bit cooler and bring the freezing level back down, or just no more rain!! ;)

You shouldn't have shorten up the float. What you should've done is remove the worm and tie hook to float.  ;D ;D ;D

It's annoying is'nt it.

Cought a chum on stave that got it's teeth stuck in the swivel  8) back in Oct. Well didn't know if that qualify as 'williness' to take bait. So back it goes.  :D

Checked the Vedder just at dark, maybe 2 feet visibility there at the most. The trouble is it is so mild out and we are getting snow melt. The temp. is presently 9 degrees with a light rain.

No pics, I was by myself, and would have hurt the fish if I had tried to dig out the camera.  SO just revived her and let her go!!  Impossible to get pics of every one!! ;)

What? :o No photos, no fish. ;D

Nice outing, a good start of the season Big Steel.

I usually like to have my camera hung from my neck with a strap, and tucked under the waders just in front of my chest so it can be accessed easily. This method allows you to take photos while you have a rod in one hand and the fish in the water. Of course, it's in your best interest to avoid this method if there is serious wading involved. If that's the case, keep the camera in a ziplock bag, or get a waterproof one. :)

Well,I would love to do the camera around the neck thing but this one is pretty big, and needs to be in it's case as it is not waterproof!  But I rarely go out by myself, this was a spur of the moment trip!!  I have a little mini camera, but it is a peice of crap!!  ;) Mind you they both are, neither of them are working with my computer!! ::)
