Bernat is a company from the east coast that makes disco wool, if it's in a yarn one would wrap it around the hook and if a dubbing then dubbed to the hook, Aaron?

Interesting stuff, what color did you get it in?

Looks to be saltwater freindly too.

James, you should focus your camera on the fly, not on your finger even though we know that you want to show off your manicure job. ;D

Your right not bad for a rookie. You will find Rod's information valuable. Focus on the fly not the finger. Use a macro setting on your camera. If you don't know where it is then look for the flower symbol. Most cameras use a flower as a macro symbol.

One particular leech pattern that has been espically good for me over the years is one with a 1/8th gold bead head, an olive dubbing body, and a brown marabou tail. I palmer a brown hackle over the body which makes for great movement in the water. This fly has been a consistant producer for some very nice trout for me and the one's that I have given it to over the years.

i got the same kind of material... i usually have a under body wrap, and use that material to replace the hackle....  As for the size of hook, i would not use anything smaller then a size 6..

mmmmm...don't agree on the size, SK. I've had great success with leeches tied on a #10.

I thought the same until I found out Bill Nation never used a smaller hook size than #6,Next year I'll ty some up with the larger size and find out for myself I guess.

Terry, i have lots of leeches tie on size 10 also, but for the material ( disco wool/ tinsel) that Stryker 07 were using, its turned up to be too bulky on small hooks, the flies just don't look right.

Have you tried taking the photo from farther back and using the zoom?  Might work.

As for the fly, not bad.  It doesn't work that good with marabou, but if you use a few light wraps with the thread at the back of the head the material might lay flatter to the hook.  Things "puff" when wrapped tight, dear hair is the best example.  Looser wraps won't crimp the material.  Again, it might not work so well with that pattern, but it's a good tip.

Keep up the good work, and post some more pics.

Here is an article that may help some of you with the fly photos. The article is a bit outdated but there are some good pointers that I have found useful in the past.
