Title: vedder oct 16
Post by: summersteel on October 16, 2005, 02:19:51 PM
I fished the lower river today with my flyrod, I caught a chum on the first cast and others after but no coho.  I was surprised because I had scouted this still water location earlier and it was perfect.   Only problem was there were no coho in it!

After an hour I went upstream to check some spots... Holy crap, what a gong show.  I'v never seen it so busy. Almost every spot is packed with people bottom bouncing with betties and 8 ft leaders. I watched 5-6 springs get hooked in the back, tail, pec fin.   I left.

They need to send a DFO officer to the railway bridge both of the pools there are being snagged the hell out of its discusting. People hook into a fish since its on the tail or back the fish goes flying down stream where there is no people so no one can see its foul hooked and they come back with the fish.

You should have been on the Upper River in the afternoon  on Saturday as it was quite crowded then too. Did manage to find a spot with some room to fish, and got two bites. The one I did manage to bring in was an old black boot and that fish was returned back to the river. And as far as questionable fishing tactics, I am not that surprised with so many people fishing the river at this time.

Has rained most of the day since then but I checked it at the Crossing just before dark and I was surprised to see it was still in good shape. Anyones guess for tomorrow.

I'm guessing the river will still be clean maybe A little brownish, but enough for fish to see :)
