Title: vedder spring October 13th
Post by: bruce on October 13, 2005, 06:36:08 PM
went to vedder river at lickman road, the secret spot for spring, hooked a chum and released, landed a female spring . Also hooked a baby salmon, i think it is also a spring, released it as well. No coho seen landed . This is the first time I landed a spring at the rocky shore without net by myself.

here is my spring :

Bruce that pool is no secret. Its one of the whore areas of the vedder where everyone gets lucky. That being said good fish but no much coho there if only landed one there in 4 years of fishing.

Totally agree with you Bug Pumper. There is no secret to catching springs on that river. Find a spot where a fish might hold and wham! Spring on!!

Well I'm glad some people agree!  If there are any bottom bouncers that have been wanting to try useing a float .... nows the time to learn because if you use a float and keep your wieghts just off the bottom..with ROE, not wool, you will murder the springs.  Wool will work also , just not as well.  If you must use wool then go with red.   BP

Ya Bug Bumper, I agree when you use roe the springs go bezerk over it if it is fished with properly. I went out today on the upper river and limited out today with 4 spring jacks. I also lost like 7 other fish. I landed 1 large spring first thing in the morning but released it because I do not like to carry a monster that size. Man where are all the coho all i'm catching this year are lots of springs. It's nice to see so many springs but at the same time I wonder if so many springs are the cause for so few coho caught, they might be spooking the heck out of the poor coho. ???

Good job Mark.  Is it just me or are those spring jacks extra tasty this year.  Usually for me the coho fishing just starts getting hot now... so we'll see.

Bruce i fished that lickman hole 2 weeks ago before it was to crowded to fish, and landed 20 springs over 30lb between me and my buddy. The biggest meat hole iv seen so far this year on the vedder. There all sitting under the over hanging log.

I disagree with the roe vs wool thing.......  I have been out a few times in the last couple of weeks and believe it or not, I have had much better luck with just wool.....at least when it comes to springs

Yes wool works but lots of times it works by drifting into the fish, but with roe you very rarely see a fish flossed by it.

Red wool works just as well as roe. so why waste good roe on a spring.

If you use roe you have a better chance of catching a coho even in a spring spot.

If your fishing a spring hole the coho are not usually with them they tend to stay in the tail outs. The chances of hooking a ho are slim. I find that the springs are more agressive.

all I ever do is short float ...  so its very rare the fish is flossed anyways
the springs have been hitting the wool really aggressive this year... and I found that peach/white/and orange together works the best

yes I know they hit wool also, but at least from what I've seen, roe is about 4 times as affective.  But thats just what I've observed.

Weel I might as well weigh in on this one as well....  Last weekend, I started with roe and hooked about 9 fish, then went to wool and proceeded to hit one more.  Then I went back to roe and hit 6 more!!!!!  So I guess you know were I stand on this subject.  If I've got roe then I am probably going to use it if I am fishing the right water for it!!!!! ;D ;D
