Hi. This is actually my first report in this forum. Just got back from Maple Ridge, fished the Stave river. Off this week so I thought I might try some fishing. It was cloudy in the morning but was sunny when I arrived in the river. Came to the river at 10:30 and went home at 1:30. It wasn't busy, saw around 5 people fishing. Saw one guy caught a chum. Not so much jumpers yet. In three hours time, hooked 2 and landed 2 as well. Both chums. No Coho's or Spring. I am using the orange striped spoon I bought from Rodney. Thanks Rodney! :D Finally caught some salmon this year. They are not chrome but I guess it's good enough for the smoker. All in all , beautiful day in the river, not crowded and no fish snagging. :) Rodney, I will send you the picture.

were you fishin by the dam?
-
Nope. It's the pullout before you go uphill towards the bridge that crosses the river.
-
Its still a bit early for the coho in this system. The chum will start coming in but not many coho if any yet.
-
me and troutslayer were there last night, after work. only had an hour of light/fishing time. We were trying for coho jacks after hearing in the shop that day that there were quite a few in there. I hooked 2 for sure. lost them up close. landed a whitefish of about a pound. troutslayer got a few bullheads adn a whitefish. LOTS of chum and a few coho rising.

went to the stave this morning - beautiful day
have not fished there for the last two years - had a great time when I did though
today, I found every snag possible - never had that problem there before
fish jumping right in front of me and I am snagged on something - bummers
-
Hey zimmer did you fish near the dam?
-
Close to the dam - just where there is that small off-shoot to the left heading towards the boat launch
I have fished there many times before but never experienced as many snags as today
-
hey roe kid i was fishin by the dam at this stave this weekend not much luck
-
Stopped by today to have a look but overall not many showing. People had been there for hours and had said they had not much action at all - even the attempting snaggers. I could see a few splashing about below the dam and the spawning channel was pretty much empty.
-
Does anybody know any good spots to fish on the Stave if you have a boat? Any tips appreciated.
-
What/where is the closest boat launch to the Stave?
-
I think there's one in Fort Langley. On the north side, Haney Marine on Mckay in Maple Ridge or the public launch around the Mission Bridge are the only ones that I know of.
-
Just got back from the stave. Fished for 2 hours from 10 till 12. LOTS of coho and springs jumping but were not interested in my pro-cured pink roe. Ended up getting a couple Boot chum.

Went up to Stave River from 1-3:30pm today with the kids. Lots of fish jumping and lots being snagged and released(at least the ones I saw). Did not see anyone landing any Coho but heard there were a few caught earlier in the day.
Quite crowded near the dam and by the boat launch.

Plenty of fish heading up the spawning channel as well.

I hope its ok to post pics in the threads, if not I'll remove them and put up a link.

Never been to the stave before. What's it like compared to the Vedder? Thanks
-
No compairison th vedder is one of the best salmon producing rivers in b.c. Lots of fish and every species of salmon goes through there
-
nice pics kiwimatt. looks like the vedder and stave are well under way. will out fishing this weekend but it will be a zoo on the rivers for sure. expect to see alot of kids out fishing with this strike goin on.
-

-

-
Okay, ill try my luick today thx for the info!

-

-
nice day on the stave - slept in until 9am and did not want to do the drive to the vedder or squamish
not too many people and tons of big, ugly, nasty fish
