Well just to say i live right by the vedder river and i went to look at it around 7pm and the river was still rising , with trees floating down i mean full size trees . The level has gone up pretty damn high and is as brown as pure mud it will be unfishable for alleast 2 or 3 days so take the weekend to sleep in for once. :'(
-
kind of figured that would happen :'( :'( but we needed the rain ;D bring on the COHO ;D ;D
-
Thanks Mark for the report. Perhaps we can target 'cat fish' in all that mud. ;D
-
You SURE it wont be good for saturday if it doesnt rain???? :'(
-
it will be ok for saturday, as long as it doesn't rain a lot tomorrow, you can still fish in a muddy river.. just gotta use shiny stuff :D worked for me last year.. :) but mostly springs
-
If the water is too colored, the best is to use roe. Because the visibility is bad, they would rely heavily on biting at what they can smell. ;)
-
yeah, can also use 20 pound leaders, hopefully :D

I think people are over reacting like allways. If fished the vedder in super bad conditions and it still produces cuz there is so many damn fish. Plus the river was super low and this is no flood rain so i doubt its THAT bad. I think people are just telling us some white lies so they got the river to them selfs to fish all them fresh coho.:P

Here's what a white lie looks like:

Be careful out there for those who insist to fish under these conditions.

Some points about safety fishing in rising or raging water and rainy weather:
1. Do not stand too close to the edge of raging water. One slip and you are a goner. I tell all newbie fishing partners to stay at least one body length from the edge. You get a 10.5 ft rod, and you don't need to stand at the edge to fish the edge anyway.
2. Do not wade if the water is rising. When you are fishing, always use a point of referrence, like a rock, to measure the water level to see if it is rising fast. Side channels are dangerous as they look innocent but can be too fast & deep to cross or wade back.
3. Do not stand on slopy or slippery rock. One wrong step, you can be history if you drop into raging current.
4. Look at the back of you to make sure the bank is stable, and that there is no over-hanging trees behind ready to cave in. Avoid the areas known for unstable banks & clay slides.
5. Even if the section of river you are fishing is not raining, you need to check if the head water mountain areas are in heavy rain. The river may still rise if the water shed area is blanketed by rain clouds. So be alert.
6. Make sure you have your suspender strapped properly if fishing in chest wader.
Any body wants to add some more points?

This is very good Funfish!
The only addition I would make i that you have good footware that fits properly. If you can afford them I recommend the felt bottomed boots to prevent slipping. If you don't have them then something with good rubber soles, and test a rock for slipperiness BEFORE stepping on it.
-
Make sure you have a reliable pocket knife, chained to what you are wearing and to be used only for emergencies. I needed it one time, when my survival depend on being able to get rid of my wader. ;)
-
also, you might wanna watch out for sand that looks high, but as soon as you step on it, you fall through like a foot :P happened to me once, pretty scarry stuff
-
96.6 mm of rain yesterday according to the rain gauge in chilliwack is no white lie, thats enough to float big trees down as other posters have mentioned.
-
thats no good about the water level i was planning to head out there this weekend :-[
-
;D some really good saftey points guys ;D we dont need to hear of any accidents on the river this coho season so be careful out there everyone :D
-
Rodney I hope you weren't calling me a lair because if so i'm very offended i know what i'm talking about so please be nice, :-\ the river is no good for at least 2 or 3 days if we get no rain but we are expecting more rain so it does not look good.
-
Huh? you couldn't see the sarcasm in my previous post? I was telling people exactly what you were saying, the river is high and brown.
-
Touchie.... ::)
-
i think rodney was agreeing with you mark. there is high water but it will recede very quickly if it does not rain. this is the time masses of fish move through very quickly. theres lots of fish right now and they are near the edges of the river and not in the middle. last year hooked a couple nice coho under the vedder bridge right near the edge. will be there tommorrow. good luck guys.
-
;D
Hopefully it'll drop and clear up to fishable condition tomorrow for the weekend warriors. If it does, the river is going to be full of fish. :)
-
Sorry Rodney, I hope you aren't too upset I wasn't paying attention, my apologies.
-
I don't know, I've been crying since your last post. ;D ;D ;D No apologies needed, words on the internet can sometimes be misinterpreted very easily. :)
-
True,True. By the way I think your site is the best for fishing sites, right on Rodney.
-
4:15 pm crossing the freeway bridge, the water has dropped a bit but is still dirt brown. the collection of debris built up under the bridge is huge.
-
just got back from the vedder still look like a giant pot of coffee
-
thats alot of water

Must be the time of year or a full moon, people are extremely sensitive! ;) Here is a joke to lighten people up, easpecially us guys!
Subject: shortest and best fairy tail ever
Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl "Will you marry me?" The girl said, "NO!" And the guy lived happily ever after and went fishing, hunting and played golf a lot and drank beer whenever he wanted.
THE END
-
hehehe i like that joke
-
Bigguy, that is really funny. That sounds nice, but who is going to cook all that meats? ;D :D Have got to be a c&r specialist to have a fairy tale ending. ;D
