Just came home from a morning's fishing. Chilly in the morning, make sure you wear your sweater. Not too many fish showing. After casting for approximately an hour I had a fish followed my spoon right to shore and then turned away. I thought it was a pike minnow. :( Several minutes later, practically on every cast I had a fish, sometimes several fish followed my lure right to the beach. It was frustrating to see this happening and them turning away at the last moment. :'( Finally a pink committed suicide by taking the spoon in less than 2' of water. It was awesome to actually see the fish take your offering !!! :)
It was also awesome to see a large sturgeon jumped in mid river.

Ya those pinks will do that to you. Yesterday in my boat i had one follow it right up to the boat then turn away.
-
Yap pinks seems to be curiouse and it gets annoying seeing that happening a few times in a roll. >:(

Must have been at a better spot this morning than I Fish Assassin. Fished the Main Arm at 645 am and had great high water but nothing was showing at all. Two gentlemen arrived shortly after me and got 3 between them quickly, and that was it. I thought it would have been on at that point, but I would have had better luck fishing in my goldfish tank. Seriously! Got some fat goldfish ;D. Needless to say, I moved at 1030 up to Brownsville Bar and had much better success. Landed 1 slightly coloured doe and lost a bunch of other chromers. Not much had happened before I got there, but there were a number of fish hooked while I was there. Fishery officer came to check licenses as well and we had a great chat. He was giving me some tips as well and was just leaving when I hooked into a beauty. Lost it though, but he was almost as excited as I was. Good to see that some of them also enjoy the passion in addition to enforcing it.
Cheers.

Use Net !?! You're been kind.
You know what my 5 year old said???
Daddy I could've done better using my water cup !!!
Sheesh.
-
Maybe because she has only seen daddy catching fish smaller than her water cup? ;D
-
Hmm, That could be it. ;D

So, fishersak just phoned to provide an instant fishing report, saying Perch has just landed a 10lb female chinook salmon. ::)
No pinks sighted yet, anytime now. :)

Had a bit of luck on the north arm today, landed one nice buck and lost another around 5:30. There were lots of fish surfacing on the low tide but they didnt want to bite.
-
Fished the N Arm between 5:15 & 6:15pm. Saw 3 hooked. 2 landed. One was on my rod! ;D
Finally, the river seems to be improving after that commercial opening.

Went out this morning for about an hr, just above Patullo Bridge. Only saw one riser and two fish hooked one landed. Just as the tide was hitting high slack. Didn't wet a line though. Maybe I should have waited a little longer. To me, it seems to be a bit slow, mind you I haven't made it out for pinks that much in the last week or so.

Only to the members who are able to catch fish. ;D
Ok, here's Perch's spring from today!

Well ...Rod, it wasnt a doe, hehe, Fishersak thought it was. I assumed it was too, it was quite fat and i couldnt tell as u know i never caught spring in the fraser before, so i wouldnt know if it was a male of female. I was left alone in this spot right after scruffy left with his brother in law. I lost my net 3 days ago, so i landed this fish with both my feet in the water, one arm holding my fishing rod, and one hand try to grab the tail. But it didnt seems to work grabbing the tail, so has to grab it by the gill after 15 min of good fight. :P
-
White or red ?
-
Its a white
;D
-
Very nice perch, that is a beauty!!!! ;D ;D
-
way to go perch. very nice fish.
tried to grab it by it's tail? ::) with one arm? ;D cheeky.
congrats.
-
:o wow very nice, good going perch have to put on my shades , i wished i could of stayed dam work, well there's always next time, man I'm just imagining the fight with that as it must of been wild on that trout rod :)
-
Nice fish and congrats. You've now outfished Rod. He can hook all the pinks he wants but until he lands a mature spring on a liight spinning rod you now have bragging rights ;D.
-
That's a beautiful fish, good job. How was the fight?
-
Very nice looking fish. I find those 10 lb. springs to be ideal for the fly rod! Anyway - I've caught whites but I never retain them. Are they any good for eating? I hear they smoke up well. But since I don't have a smoker - would there ever be any point? Perhaps perch can recommend some recipes! :D
-
;)Well sorry guys, dont really know any good recipes for spring. I m sure some ppl here in the forum might know a few good one. Well this spring sure fight pretty good, when i first hooked it, it was way out there, i though i m foul hook a pink..then my drag starting to go and go and go.... for about 15 sec. then i tighten it a bit cas i might loose all my line. ppl that know me know that I have a very light spinning combo so....I try to follow it by walking on the shore... this is going one for at least 15 min and it finally give in. I m glad is a 12Lber and not a 25 Lber cas if it was a huge one, I dont think i can manage it with my gear and without a net. Cheers! ;D

White chinook salmon are just as tasty, despite what many would tell you. A fresh fish such as the one Perch caught can be very delicious on the BBQ. Two years ago I had a chance to taste a piece of BBQed white chinook salmon at our BC Rivers Day event, it was excellent! The fish doesn't need to be smoked to be good. If the white chinook is dark, it'll taste just like a dark coho, chum, pink - awful.
-
a beauty of a spring perch! was your fish caught on one of (drum roll please) rodney's homemade spoons cause if it was than......i want one!
-
Hey Perch - I know what you mean - spring vs. foul hooked pink. I had a simliar experience, but the fish turned out to be a chrome bright 10 lb. white spring. And I landed it on my 7 weight fly rod (Sage 796 XP). I released it though. After reading Rod's comments, perhaps I should have retained the fish. I LOVE red springs. Maybe I should give a chrome white a try. :)
