Well Fmyfriend and I went out for some pinks and sturgeon today. He shows up at my door around 9am with a Tim Horton's coffee for me, which was really nice of him. I had some sandwiches made, as well as some beverages in a cooler for our journey.
We get the boat launched at around 9:30 and head on over for some pinks. After my buddies 3rd cast fish on. He brings it up and its a beautiful doe. Not too long after that I get one on. A nice clean buck. So after another 45mins go by we have limited out on pinks. We had a ton of fun playing with these aggressive fish. It was one after another. So now that we had our pinks it was off to find some sturgeon.
We arrive at our destination and set up the rods. Not 20 mins go by and my buddy sets the hook and passes the rod off to me. This beauty was a monster. The fish was pulling hard than all of a sudden it jumps straight up in the air. I had never caught a sturgeon before and this was something I just cant explain. My adrenaline was pumping and the fish was fighting like a beautiful beast. The fish would take short runs but very powerful runs. The fish would get close than all of a sudden just take off again. After about 30 mins my buddy said lets get it close to shore to take a few pictures of it before releasing it. So we head up on shore and I fight with it to get it closer to shore. My arms were getting tired as this beauty would not give up. Finally we get it close to shore and my buddy snaps a couple pictures.

Beauty sturg the big ones are feeding I know that spot i have caught many in that area . Last weekend we got a 7 , 4, and lost a 14 seen it jump i was in awe. The water is still a little warm so they will only fight harder as fall progresses. Any others hooked or just the big daddy?.

what kind of lb. test is used to catch something that huge? wow.
-
80 lb main minimum. 60 lb leader minimum.

100lb main and 72lb braided leader is what i use.

Holy cupcakes!
You caught that from the shore?
What kind of tackle do you use? And rod?
Man it would be cool to go to Richmond every day for one of those, instead of measly little Pinks! (although I have yet to get one of those :()

Actually we were using 50lb mono for mainline and leader. When he told me thats what we were using I was wondering if it would be enough. Well it was enough and it was an awesome experience. I getting the picture of me and "Sturgie" blown up and its going on my wall in my office. ;D
