Title: Lower Fraser September 2nd
Post by: Rodney on September 02, 2005, 10:42:00 AM
Just a quick report as I received a phone call from Perch. His dad landed a spring jack shortly after they arrived at No. 3 Road pier in Richmond. :) It is not unusual to see some spring jacks while spincasting this time of the year. He also reported that there are anglers around but none were catching pinks, the tidal is going out fairly fast at this time but the strong incoming tide this evening should bring in some fish. :)

Few things to remember

No so Floater.  Please excuse me, but my understanding is that jacks will spawn and die.  So that jack will not get any bigger than he already is.  I had a biology professor at UBC who calls jacks "sneaky f**kers"...pretty much describes them!

Haha, hey thnx for the info.I never knew that they spawned that small but i gess if you think bout it,it would kinda make sense.Do all of the salmon that go threw the fraser spawn out and die,if so then why do the small jacks spawn soo eerly,is it because of economic reezons or is it just from wich family they come from? When I start thinkin about it there is a hell of alot of questions about these feirce salmon.

Jacks are sexually mature. They don't grow any bigger.

Danny you guys must have intercepted the fish that we were trying to catch down here at 3pm...

I arrived at the river at around 2pm, not a single person around. I turned around, who do I see? gman drove up and parked behind me, followed me that sneaky guy. ;D

Anyways, I got down to the river and fished right away, gman got out of his working clothes, and ventured down but kept walking downstream as if he was fearing my skunk. :P He kept walking, and walking... ended up 50 meters below me. ;) We had the entire place to ourselves, no one upstream, no one downstream, just the two eagles that were circling high above us. :) The little bay in front of us were holding some pink salmon, they were surfacing every now and then. The water clarity was slightly dirtier than yesterday, making things a bit harder.

After 30 minutes or so, still no action, it was getting frustrating. gman claimed he saw a large sturgeon jump, I missed it... :-\ I finally hooked one an hour later, but it came off again after a few kicks! I didn't even yell fish on, so gman didn't even look up to see what was going on. After that, a few more taps, and the school was gone! gman left to his workout, and I was alone and getting bored very fast. I ended up leaving the place and headed to No. 3 Road, where I saw ahans and pierboy casting into the head wind. No luck according to them, pierboy hooked into two fish he said. I fished for awhile and decided to go home as I was getting very hungry... :o

Here's a Vedder River spring jack by the way, give you an idea how big they are.

yes it is slow, I tried after work and  slow  slow slow  fishing,I heard it's been that way for two days now.  At least there is alot more fishing ahead of us.                                                                                                                                                                              ok, anybody, and           Rodney, I am curiuos to know which side of the river you think is better at this time ?
And will it change later?

First time out for pinks for me today. Rod, I wasn't afraid of your skunk, I just walked down to where I saw the most jumpers!  ;) Not that it did me any good - I didn't get a fish on. It was nice and peacefull though. The sturgeon was quite a site - makes me want to bring out the heavy gear. I've never tried sturgeon fishing  in the lower river.

It was nice to get out and give it a try. It should get better day by day from here on.

My nephew and I headed to the Bar Bar after supper. Unbelievable to find it devoid of people at this time of year. Must have all gone sockeye fishing. Saw a couple of jumpers. Had a hit on a zzinger; my nephew had a hit on a spoon.

Rod, not only did gman sneak up on you, he also snuck out of the office today. I had a hunch where he disappeared to when his desk was vacant early.

Glad I'm not the only one who does that..... glowing, suntanned face is a giveaway next morning......
