From what I hear it seems to be cheaper to buy gear accross the border. Anyone knows a good place to buy decent equipment over there? I was gonna go on Saturday and look for a samlmon rod (possibly a Trophy XL) and a Abu C4. Thanks.

What you save in tackle is going to cost you in the price of gas. There is a good tackle shop in Bellingham call Yeaghers.

If you're going to Greater Seattle area, GI Joes seems to have the best price. I got a couple of Abu Garcia Ambasadeur reels, C3 & C5, for about $35 & $40. Also bought a Shimano Converge rod for about $55. I bought them last January, on my X'mas/New year visit. I've got a good deal as it might have been inventory clear out prices or something. When ever I visit Seattle, I always go ther to check out what's on special. ;)

a c5 for 40 u.s. :o man thats a steal i paid 170 can for mine ;)

In the past 10 years Yaeger's has really cut back on fishing gear-now there's some Bass stuff and little else.
I agree that the money spent on fuel will eat up any savings.

I understand that the cost of fuel would eat up all the price advantage...in particular now...but I was gonna go across the border anyhow so it wont matter. I still have no clue where to go, I wasn't planning on going all the way to Seattle, hoping for something closer. Any idea what the border might be like on Saturday with the long weekend?

With the cost of gas I would imagine the lineup will be shorter than what it would be on a long weekend.

Matuka: Where is GI Joe? Are there more than one? Is there a web-site?
Fengyuanfe: I think I saw some at Walmarts for ~$60 US a month ago. Fishing line is definitely cheaper. Have fun!

i thought i saw a gi joes store just before you go over a big bridge outside of bellingham but before renton.
when heading to seattle it was on the left hand side. if i recall around the skagit region.
there is also a neat fly fishing store just after the aldergrove border crossing on the states side. had some high end scott and loomis fly fishing rods and gear. lots of flies and flytying material.
