Halftime Update
I just got in to grab some warmer clothes as it started to drizzle a bit out there. It's awfully windy too, making things rather unpleasant. I'll probably head out again, but this chair is rather comfortable and the Pringles that I am nibbling away is keeping me happy.... :-[
Anyways, quite a contrast to yesterday, there were not too many fish moving through. Fishery opening for FN finished at noon, so no boats were out there netting. I arrived and saw ahans, lucky and his girlfriend tossing lures away. There were at least 30 or 40 other people fishing as well. Chrome Mykiss later blamed me for spreading the words so fast. ;D However I think it's great to see that many people fishing for a species that is so easily enticed. Doug, who showed up to take a look during his family day ;D, reminded me that it's all of you who are fishing for pinks and keeping the Pacific Salmon Foundation funded by purchasing the salmon conservation stamp. In the end the process mutually benefits all parties.
Had a brief chat with fengyuanfei, and also Trazdar, nice meeting you. While talking to Trazdar and Chrome Mykiss, I had my spoon fluttering out there without being reeled in. I had my back to the water, then I felt a strong pull on the rod. I set the hook partially, a couple of kicks and the fish was off! We then saw a pink leaping out right in front of us. ::)
TtotheE, Fishersak, Perch and Chrome Mykiss are still out there fishing... They promised to phone if the action picks up... As I was driving back, I also saw Fish Assassin desperately trying by himself... ;D then I think that was last cast I waved at as I drove away... :)
Anyways, to sum it up. We saw one caught, nothing else was happening. :-\
Must be my cooler in the car.... ;)
Few things to remember
- You need a tidal sportfishing licence when fishing in the tidal Fraser River.
- You need to purchase a salmon conservation stamp if you intend to keep your pink salmon.
- Daily quota for pink salmon is four fish in tidal Fraser River.
- Daily quota for chinook salmon is four fish in tidal Fraser River, but only one maybe over 50cm.
- You may only keep four salmon (mixed species) in total per day.
- Only a single barbless hook is allowed on the lure.
- You must release any sockeye carefully.
- Pink salmon have large oval spots on their back and tail. Sockeye salmon do not have spots. Chinook salmon have tiny black spots on its back and tail.
- Complete tidal Fraser River salmon regulations can be found on this page (http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/recfish/Tidal/fraser_e.htm).
- Report all fishing violations to DFO Steveston 604-664-9250.
- Make sure you have a good fillet knife to clean your catch and a cooler with ice to keep your it fresh.

I think it's great that finally there are biting fish that are easy to catch (must be swimming by) now in the Fraser. All the people still smoking upset over not having a sockeye season should justget over it and on to these pinks while the season is here.
Rod you missed a couple other "things to remember" and they are
1) a good knife to clean your catch
2) a cooler with ice so you can keep your catch fresh.
Pinks can be good eating if you clean and ice them down right after killing it. Keep them cold and they will bbq or smoke up just fine.
enjoy it while DFO keeps it open.

Nice meeting you too Rod! Other than that it was a disappointing afternoon, I left when the rain started getting stronger around 4pm. No fish anywhere...
I should have asked you to show me the magic lure you use...next time.

Tried my luck out at Garry Point Park. Arrived about an hour too late but thought I'd try anyway. Guy next to me caught a nice Pink but my son and I got skunked. First time out this summer and stayed for about 2 hours. My other son and friends spent the day fishing off a boat around the Port Man. He had no luck either. When they got back to the dock, a native boat was there selling Sockeye for $12 a fish, go figure.

Ok, well I went fishing today too and first cast fish on! then broke my line must have been a bad knot or something. Then a few casts later, fish on!! nice doe, landed it there were 3 other guys with me at the same spot. all in all we got 4 fish between us. Had a Great time, they showing up now! Sweet!

Fishersak, Perch, Pierboy, blaydRnr and I fished and chatted until about 7pm. Itosh showed up as well to see what all the fuss was about. ;) We ended up seeing the odd fish rolling, but nothing to report. Chrome Mykiss on the other hand, took off with his dad to another spot and managed to land two. :P

Was out today 30th and there seemed to be alot jumping around mid day. It died off with high tide. There were these four kids pulling in tonnes, but I think they were snagging them. If they have three staggered hooks and are drawing in big sweeping pulls, is this not snagging? And if so, isn't it illegal? May be a dumb question, but I am from the wheats and am new to salmon fishing.

Was nice to meat you Rod. I guess we kind of forgot about the ID Salmon cards ::) all well maybe next time. So far i have not needed to now what salmon is what since hmm 25days of fishing and not one yet hooked. I will not count the one that was snagged on the cheek since i released it not sure if that would be a legal one though it most bit the spoon and i hooked it too late. Thats what i think at least.

Yes, it is snagging and it is illegal.
