We arrived at the Ambleside boat launch at 5am and were on the water shortly after that. I had meant to upgrade my net the night before but got sidetracked as often happens on a Friday night. We paid for the procrastination several times...
We had a coho to the boat by 6am, unfortunately my poor excuse for a net didn't do the job...pop went the hook.
An hour later something large started stripping line off of my new reel...which stripped the drag. I managed to get the Spring to the side of the boat and of course it didn't fit the net and pop went the hook.
Around 10am in front of Stanely Park, spring on, to the side of the boat and you guessed it ... pop went the hook.
I bought a HUGE net that afternoon.
As a side note I will NEVER BUY ANYTHING from STEVESTON MARINE again. The sales staff remembered selling me a load of gear the previous weekend where I loaded up - 2 rods, reels, line, flashers, cannon balls, etc plus a GPS the week before. I didn't have my reciept but had the orignal boxes etc with their pricing sticker on it. They wouldn't exchange the defective reel which happened to go when we had our first spring on. Bad form ... I'll go out of my way and stick to my local shop from now on.

Nice story; too bad about your net.

First time actually fishing the local salt waters ... feels odd to be home and done within an hour.

interesting..you were highlining then...cuz charter operators out that morn got squat...

We kept between 25 and 45 feet with 5-6 inch anchovies. It was best just after the high slack. We were finding schools concentrated at 30 to 50 feet.
We did land a very small pink which we released...didn't need a net for that one.

well...that's good news then, cuz I am going out this afternoon, and I also have tomorrow off, so I am going to see if the situation has changed over recent weeks...

Good luck! I'll be back out there this Saturday and Sunday.

I thought that the spring would be down a bit. Isn't it just always the thing that the one peice of equip out of the 30 trip details, lands you in the ' OH< play ', range we all know and love! Sounds like you've got your rig down pretty good!
