A freind picked up a big pink off Sandheads this afternoon. Very deep 150 feet on the rigger. Maybe they are running deeper than usual.

k..
what else did he hit..anything? press your friends for a full report!

Just the one big pink plus one 12" spring, and a few dogfish. No other keepers on a 3 hour tour.

Out in sooke, the pinks were being caught at 125 to 150 feet 5 miles out. This is quite different then the time we were there two years ago catching them in close and the top 40 feet.

Yeah, last time I remember pinking off Sandheads when lots were there, we dropped the rigger to 18 or 28 feet and oingo boingo. I think they are being smart hiding from seals in the deep. The seals probably eat fewer of the deep ones. Maybe it's the water temperature or salt/fresh thing. Either way, I'll be trying a deep line next time, which unfortunately won't be for at least a week.

I caught pinks at 110ft in Sooke last weekend as well as 2 sockeye at the same depth.

Here is a 10lb Spring and a Sockeye ( it was one of the 2 sockeye I caught ) Didnt bother taking pics of the pinks but they are on the cleaning table in the background. I was on a chartered trip.

Caught a pink today at Pink Apt.
Not too deep, the water there is pretty shallow.
I'd guess it was at about 20~30 ft.
Caught on Anchovy & green flasher, slip weight 8oz at 40 pulls. Slow, but probably 1 ft down for every 2 feet back.
I'm guessing <2 ft pulls.
The local charters were anchored and casting for pinks so they must've seen something on the finders.
I saw only 1 fish break the surface, almost right under my rod tip, and soon after it was fish on, and fish landed. I'm guessing it at 4lb.
Didn't see anything else landed in the 2 1/2 hours I was out there. (7:00am~9:30)

Nice work. Sure is nice to hear some reports from the chuck.

Just off the phone with a fishing buddy who was out this weekend--and he knows his stuff... His results in 10 hours of trolling? 1 keeper pink. THAT POSITIVELY SUCKS!
