Post by: allwaysfishin on August 18, 2005, 04:03:19 PM
ditch full of dead salmon fouund dumped near tswassen bands land, 41st and the dyke.
delta municipial workers apparently had to bring in a dump truck to gather the rotting wasted fish. Spoke to a municipal employee today and he informed me of this utterly offensive, reprehensible act.
Goddamn poaching , fish wasting ^#&%$#&^%$*^$^#*#*%$(%^ !!!!!!

No one said WHO put them there.

So do not assume! You have to PROVE who did it, not guess.

I guess this happens everwhere on the fraser tidal or not. It sure is a shame. Who needs a chemical spill when you have nets. :'( :'(

those are all fish that they were not able to sell on the side of the road at 10 bucks each. they spoil quickly on hot summer days. thats called a food fishery guys. PS send that picture to the media as well.

Could they have been pinks?  We see piles of pinks on the bank during pink season all the time as the FN generally do not want pinks. We have seen them in the past take 50 plus pinks out of the set net and throw them all dead back into the river. Not an unusual occurance but a tremendous waste.

Can we STOP and THINK about what are being posted here please? >:(

Why are some of you making quick assumptions that the dumped salmon in the ditch are from First Nation fishermen?

Secondly, the dumped salmon should be reported to the ORR line, DFO Steveston or RCMP if it hasn't been done so. While I respect allwaysfishin's work and his information is most likely credible, it is still second hand information. While the sockeye issue is hot in the media, people need to be objective and think before they say something that can backfire.

It's not us against them. It's not about shutting down the First Nation fishery so the recreational sector can have an opening.

I agree Rod, I had hoped there would be some more info availlable but I have not been able to confirm any details through Delta municipality. The fellow I spoke with lives in the area that this occured and also is a municipal works employee. he was not a member of the clean up crew.
I was told it was salmon, several hundred, actual species not identified NOR was this for sure a dumping by first nations. It's proximity to the reserve land is strange though.
anyhow, if I hear more on this I'll let ya'all know.

this is the first year i have heard of fish dumping. no matter who it is people are going to be sensitive because of the waste factor. it doesn't matter what species...pink sockeye spring its the fact these fish are caught and then dumped to rot! and throw in the fact about low abundance year.......i  have already moved on about sockeye fishing for this year but i personnally get pissed when waste is happening and we know who they are 99% of the time.

hmmm......how many folks have a dump truck full of fish??????....the facts point the finger at the guilty party........no one  else need bother wonder who "they" are.....its pretty simple...."they" will slaughter the remaining stocks.....then "they" will target the next most valuable species.....look to history if you want to predict the future....is a cycle in there somewhere.....just my opinion....your milage could vary...;)))

i'm sorry. maybe it was a recreational fisherman that caught all those salmon with his fishingrod and bouncing betty in one day....then hauled them in the back of his pickup.....and decided that he did not have enough room in the freezer so he  just got rid of them in the bush. Yeah that makes more sense......yeah it really does!

If FN are not going to need pink salmon then throwing them away by the hundreds back into the fraser to die is just plain stupid. WE cannot treat our resources like this anymore. They can sell these salmon in steveston for example for a couple dollars each at least and people in the area will buy them. The FN needs education if they want to be part of the 20th century with rest of us. It seems they would rather spit in our faces before that happens. Who's our fisheries critic  in ottawa anyway?

two years ago i was fishing off island 22. natives were netting pinks. i personally saw them discarding the males, chucking them off the boat after they've died already. i called dfo...nothing happened.
