There is a boat launch next to the sailing club off Ambleside.

What a sight that would be.  Have you ever seen newbie boaters try launching their new 20ft at low tide? Stay away.  Scary sight

...everyone has to start somewhere right? no one is a pro boat launcher on their first few tries...boats are pretty big things to try and launch last time i checked.

Well it depends on the size of the boat doesn't it?
I mean a 14' Lund cartopper can be lifted off the trailer and dragged into deeper water-even at low tide (I have done this).
A 20" Bayliner needs the kind of water found @ the dropoff in Sunset Marina.

In general, they're pretty large things for anyone to try and just back down a ramp and launch into the water. Same goes for trying to dock your boat or yacht without smashing into anyone. takes a lot of practice and people being supportive, not laughing and pointing. Pointers and tips will help it become not a "zoo" or scary sight.  Help a kid out if you see them being dumb about launching, in the same way that alot of you here are thoughtful enough to pick up litter and line from your favorite fishing spots that other inconsiderate people leave behind.

Oh come on man the year is 2005 if you go and try and help someone they turn around and tell ya to make like the birds as they know what they are doing!  So you mean to tell me that it is alright for people to smash into your Car as they are learning how to drive??????  Come on man wake up, I could park my comm. boat that was 42' in a spot that was about 45' and boats all around and I never hit another boat.  Hell when I started driving I never hit another car beside me, then have some knob tell me oh he is just learning how to park!  GET REAL

Good attitude, the world certainly doesn't revolve around you. ::)

..huge difference between driving an automobile and driving a boat wouldn't you say? no one said anything about driving a car buddy. you don't need several people to "launch" a car do you? it seems a lot harder to come to a full stop in a boat than a car.

lend a hand to those who look like they could use it without the poor attitude and you might actually get a decent response, but if the way you act here is any indication, maybe you should just stay well back and laugh under your breath and keep thinking that it's YOUR world and everyone just lives in it. >:(

yah Phatwop has got a point...... people should be a little more understanding....Fishing is kinda like a brotherhood...I have always helped beginners... whether its spotting fish and teaching them how to do it or showing them how to cast a bait caster......I am sure CF got his skill in time... Its not like you woke up and knew how to do this....

It's just that some new boater doesn't have the knowledge that at a grade (ramp slope) and water resistance it take more effort from truck to make it
up the ramp.
Also tide comes in really fast at certain boat launch and not all ramps is cutout for 24+ ft boats !! Yes maybe with 3~4 people you can but
there is boat ramps that just doesn't have enough dip for launching big boats.

ie Maine Island even a 14' Zodiac at high tide you have to drag it 6 meters into the water inorder not to be beached.

It's not that we are armchair fisherman.... Its just the fact that we help people when they are in need of help because they are new to things... thats all...
