Salvage crews are preparing to recover the CN tank car that derailed north of Squamish last week, dumping 41,000 litres of toxic sodium hydroxide into the Cheakamus River.

The crews are expected to begin the six-hour salvage operation at about noon on Friday.

The public is being advised to avoid the Cheakamus river below Chance Creek Road, and to stay away from the Squamish river below the Cheakamus.

i think they should close the system down to fishing completely untill the cheakamus recovery is well underway. from what i've heard about the implications of a spill of this type and the magnitude the effects have on the ecosystem itself..... that could be years.

I think your right they should just close it down. I can not believe that people are still going there to fish. LET THE SYSTEM RECOVER[c but that just my two cents
