Title: Chehalis and alley cat fishing
Post by: summersteel on July 09, 2005, 05:06:51 PM
Went with Rob today to check out the Chehalis after this rain. River is in great condition but we had no luck. As we were leaving some guys from Berry's B&T showed up and we talked for a bit. They were going to scout around so hopefully they had better luck.  When I got home I decided to try some alley cat fishing, as I've seen a few lurking around my yard. I took out my 8wt flyrod and laid a perfect cast near the rose bushes. As I stipped in the popcycle fly a blure of fur shoots out and grabs the fly, hookset and yaaa cat on!!!  The jumps and runs were unbelievable and after 10 min I finally worked him into a shady spot in the courtyard where I managed to get some good pictures of the fight. A minute later I worked him closer to my front door and bonked a nice 11lb short hair tabby. Not a bad day after all.   LOL  BP    I'll get Rod to post the pictures.(http://)

Works on dogs too! Make sure you use a 9W or better though.

Always fishing, the guys didn't say they were from the shop but Rob said he knew one of them worked there.  Maybe in the past?   BP

steeley man, there is some water now at the hatchery but only about 6 inches deep.  It'll be gone in a day or two.  We fished the easter seal run, or bible camp I forget the name. By the campground.

is it me or does it seem odd that the cat's just sitting there with a hook in it's mouth instead of running around like crazy?

Yeesh!!!  Of course I would never let my cat play with a fly that still had the hook attached.  I cut the hook off and my cat LOVES to chase the fly around. In the picture he's sitting there growling because he doesn't know whats trying to pull the fly away from him. He's got a good grip on it as you can tell by the bend in the rod. He takes out line trying to get away with his prize.

haha i always do that with my cat. I cast my little spincaster down the hallway witha cat toy on the end of it. Cast it down, and wait for bites, until she really hits it. Its hilarious! works everytime!!!

No problem chronic, that cat is definatly my buddy. He follows me everywhere and loves going for walks around the block with out a leash. He must think we're prowling the territory. And he loves getting bits of fresh raw salmon when I'm filleting them.
