We fished Laidlaw this morning, in the rain. Bottom bounced for 4.5 hours, no fish. we did see the natives pull up their net and remove 4.

thanks, water is low enough to walk across? :o I would imagine most of the bar isnt showing ???

How many nets did you see in total? Drift or/and set?

We fished the top end of the bar, which is normally good for springs.. The natives have a set net there that is there every year from spring through fall.

I agree to a certain extent, I couldnt help but think damm their BB the fraser already!
I don't think the early run sockeye are anywhere close to the river yet luckily.

just so you know, we got most and ALL of our biggest springs last year on short 3 to 4 foot leaders. I will also mainly use 1/2 inch size spin n glo's in black scale, chrome green top or red top. These seem to work well bouncin for the early springs and looking at pictures the hooks are most of the time inside the mouth and not on the outside jaw as most often found on flossed fish. Are they biting? I hope so but won't go as far as to say i think they are..... maybe. Try it this year for yourselves, a 15 ft leader isn't necessary by any means.

Or you could actually use a selective method like bar fishing a stationary spin-n-glo and know that your chances of hooking an early Stuart sockeye are minimal. ???

I don't know about waiting all season to get one, I have had good success bar fishing, a good number of two fish days and even a few three fish days, and yes, until I figured it out there were no fish days, but now it is pretty consistent. Not until later in the year though....

personally I have never caught a sockeye in may or june, and after checking my logs, we have not caught any sox on the 3 to 4 ft leaders...... except during the opening in august. It should be noted that we are fishing spots that have generally little success for sockeye, something i prefer when targetting springs.
I second the "close the thread" if this degenerates idea...... the flossing debates are pointless.... if you don't like flossing, write to your fisheries minister for changes to the regulations..... or keep whining about it ;D
