Title: Vedder - Sunday, April 10th
Post by: Gooey on April 10, 2005, 02:34:20 PM
Got a last minute late call last night from Bug Pumper and he was able to talk me into a trip today.

Started at a hole that last year produced a lot of fish but which has not been so kind this year ( that was in the upper river).  Kept on heading up and found ourselves at the same whole I hook my 2 fish in last week.  Again it was good to me.  After 5-10 minutes of fishing, my float goes down and its fish on.  It made a nice little run down river right in front of Bugz, there seemed to be a lot of surface thrashing and I was concernd I had snagged it. But once I turned it and brought it up into the shallows, I could see my hook burried right in her snout.

It was a wild female and with the good hook set and 10lb leader, I thought I would take my time and enjoy possible my last steelhead battle of the season.

After quickly snapping a few shots she gave a flick of her tail and scampered back into the run she came from.

That was the only fish we saw today and with the good weather and a great fishing budyy, not a bad way to end the season!

PS I have gicven up on drennens.  after loosing 2 over the last 4 trips, I went back to foam.  My 3 fish
(all in the last 2 trips) have come in low clear conditions with 10lb leadewr and a beat up old float!  I think a lot of us over think steelheading and if the fish wants it, it doesnt matter what you do!

Yup, Drennans are certainly expensive. Don't want to lose too many of those so Chris can pick them up.  ;D

its the perfect color, look how it matches my waders and jacket  ;D ;D ;D

I think it had spawned, not only was it colored but the belly was quite skinny too.

Fought pretty well all the same!
