Fished for a few hours on the fly and down riggers with wedding band & worms . Alot of boats fishing never seen any action . Probably the calmest day I've ever seen out there , the water level is ultra low. Great day out on the water the dog got to swim and we did manage to catch some rays. Not alot showing on the sounder seen two small ones rise . The boat launch had no dock which made things difficult , for some reason they take it out every winter. I would imagine it's removed for repairs and the low water probably plays a factor in this.

I am surprised you didn't get anything, we usually hook quite a few fish using the same techniques you were. Most of the fish we have caught at Allouette are small, 10-15 inches or so, with the odd bigger one here and there.
-
been told they take them out for winter so ice doesnt damage them(if we ever got any?}personaly i think so that the kids that go up there partying dont burn them.Usualy see them in there around may long wknd .

This is the first time I have ever been skunked at Allouoette . I think not having my kicker may have had something to do with our lack of success. We threw a bucket out the back trying to slow ourselves down but our trolling speed was still 1.8 mph it seemed to quick usually when my kicker is working I troll dead slow. Just waiting on a piece from Mercury for my throttle linkage 3 weeks ago I ordered it.

Are there any good places to fish from shore at alouette lake?
-
Yes the gold creek camp ground . Where the creek flows into the lake is like a large shoal fairly shallow you could fish in waders or shorts the shoal extends a fair distance out off the beach . I have been out there anchored on top of the shoal and seen very large sized fish cruising this shoal. Where I was anchored was probably in casting range of the shore. I have also been able to see others catching fish from shore . Two years ago we were water skiing and had home base set up on the beach a guy was fishing with a bobber and worm he hooked a 4 lb Rainbow so it's very likely you could have the same success.

Thanks! I'll have to give that a try.

Did you get into any stick fish like last time? :P haha
What was the water temperature like?

I would like to try downriggers on allouette lake. Do you use some sort of attracter like a flasher or dodger with the wedding band or other lures. I usually just use sinking fly lines or willow leafs withought the downrigger. Thanks
-
I personally use my wedding band by it self . When you fight the fish it's much more fun . I don't like using the ford fenders or willow leafs , to much added drag it makes a 10 " feel like a 24 " . When ever I have been out fishing Allouette I use just a wedding band but my buddie uses the band and willow leaf combo . I usually have the same success or better. I have dragged both fly and hardware and on certain days the fly will double the production of the hardware and other days vise versa. I tie my own flies and I tie a dark green baggy shrimp pattern and it can be deadly on allouette. Hope this can help make your day more successful .

Thanks for the reply.

Out of curiousity when you troll your baggy shrimp, what size do you use? I have only had luck with a large (size 2) muddler minnow.
-
I use # 8 or # 10 they tend to be most productive for me. These same flies work well on Mike lake as well. Even # 6 worked for me. The smaller ones tend to do better on Mike lake. I use a sinking line on the fly rod . Sometimes I use my spincaster with about a 1/8 ounce split shot above my two way swivel and then a 4 or 5 foot , 2 to 4 lb leader with the fly or wedding band tied on the end. I have had several 10 fish days or better I strictly catch and release all trout as they are to small to bother with. Not to mention the surplus of salmon I catch on the west coast tends to take up all the room in my freezer.

Legend;
Have you caught any Kokanee in Alouette lake?
-
ATS yes I have hooked Kokanee on both fly and wedding band set up they tend to be in large schools near the boat ramp there is a speed restriction sign out there if you troll as sone as you leave the ramp straight out to this sign you should get some. I have a fish finder and they usually are around this area in great #'s. Around the top 30 ft. GOOD LUCK.
-
Thanks Legend.
I have not tried for the Kokanee yet myself, but a couple of friends of mine have for the last couple of years. I've been eager to take the kids out to give it a try. I imagine they're great eating, much like a Sockeye probably.

Personnally I find that the Allouette Lake Kokanee do not taste as rich or flavourful as the Kokanee out of Kakawa. I think it's because of the amount of fish feed that ends up drifting from the fish farm pens. I really notice the trout are very bland - infact I don't even bother keeping them anymore.Even their flesh of both fish is not as bright as it should be. Lot's of fun to catch though. I know the Kokanee out of the Interior lakes like Arrow and Kootenay are way more flavourful and have brighter flesh and I'm sure that's due to the shrimp they feed on up there. Has anyone else noticed this?

THe kokanee in allouette lake do have lighter flesh than I thought although i still think they taste good. I havn't tried kawkawa lake before but i may later on. I heard late spring early summer is the time to go. Any tips on the techniques used and times for the kokanee in kawkawa? Thanks
-
I like trolling for them but a lot of people tend to anchor in front of the rockslide and fish krill off the bottom. Some troll flies for the trout. Kawakawa should be producing any time now.
-
whats disturbing is that kawkawa lake had a bass pulled out of there sometime ago. a nice chunky 4.5 lb largemouth with a belly full of smolts unfortuneately. The fisheries are concerned about this and are planning to implement a full kill of the lake if more bass are caught. hopefully there are no more in there.
