Title: Squamish this weekend???
Post by: Hung on November 25, 2004, 08:24:41 PM
OK my friend is coming in Friday night and wants to try some fishing.  I know the weather will be freezing and the river is probably all stink up by now, but is it worth a try?  Doesn't matter if we just get old boots.  Any advice is appreciated.

Hung, rivers are blown out right now unfortunately... Unless we get some really cold days.... and dry days... It looks like this weekend is out. :(

ok nevermind.... just checked the graph again and it is dropping fast!

It went from 2.3 to 3.8 overnight, but it's down to 3.0 again.... freezing level is low, but it's supposed to snow tomorrow! TtotheE is going tomorrow, so he might be able to give you a report then...

The river is indeed currently blown out.  The wade across the newly created side channels to the Mamquam can be treacherous due to the high water content in the sand of the islands.  It may well have been quicksand.  The river seemed twice as wide as it usually is.  With the downpour of rain which started just before noon when we left,  I'd say the river would be a write off for the weekend.

There are still some boots around,  trying to spawn,  move up the system,  find a mate etc.  Water clarity was ok.

Just got back from the squish, frankly the fish really seem at death's door - good for eagle watching was our conclusion today. oh yeah, it poured.
