Hi all,
Just introducing myself on here.
I'm just back in England after a great time in BC.
Even managed to catch a chum or three. A couple of highlights for me were in the form of a couple of Chinook over 20lbs and a Sturgeon of 140lb est.
However I'd like to tell you that it's not real salmon fishing you have over in BC. The real salmon fishing is in Scotland, where you don't catch anything!
Anyway thanks BC for a great time, I'm already booking for next October.

Thanks for that but I steer well clear of Scotland these days and fish locally around Cambridge for reservoir Rainbows and the occasional Brown. Pike fish in the winter and head for the west of Ireland for a couple of months each summer. No fish the size of BCs mainly Grilse to about 6-8lbs. It was really good to have something pull back a bit when in BC. I did have a go at Bluefin tuna in Ireland a couple of years back and am saving up for another go [big big mothers!!!!] see www.tunacharters.ie (http://www.tunacharters.ie) for awesome fish.

Glad you had a great time in BC Colin. Based on your avitar, I would love to see some episodes. Comedy from the mother land can't be beat. Although Kids in the Hall and This hour has 22 Minutes are pretty good too. Tight lines!

Welcome Colin... :) I don't know what's attracting you Brits to BC every year... I mean, I've heard you can easily haul in 200lb of carp in one outing over there..... ;D

Imagine the infighting in my family. My English grandmother married my Irish grandfather and their daughter married my father who was born of English and Welsh parents. I don't know who's side to pick! At least we all like Caul Cennin ;D

I'm afraid carp leave me a bit cold. The Commons are OK but some of the big mirrors the "Carpers" catch over here are grotesque! They can certainly pull a bit though.
BC is attractive as a fishing location because of the various salmon species and also the Sturgeon not only that but you don't seem to have as many traffic jams as we do. I found the traffic easier in Vancouver than in my home town of Cambridge [pop 120,000] and that was taking driving an automactic and being on the wrong side into consideration.

Agreed, the salmon variety plus many more species to keep the mind stimulated throughout the entire year is something we often take for granted here.

The traffic in Vancouver? :o Less cars, but more terrible drivers. ;D Driving in Europe has always been a first class experience. Everyone knows what to do, way smoother. The only thing is when you get into the really really urbanized area, and you get all these tiny tiny streets that zig zag all over the place like a maze... Oh the joy....

The Ely/Fenland website has details of all[?] the Fenland 30lb plus fish we can trace. Denis Moules the guy who has compiled the list has published a small paperback book of this section of the website.

very few "BIG" pike get caught on Lures, spoons etc. Except where that's all you can use. We can use livebait so most biggies get caught on live or deadbaits. Rapalas are good especially the Super shad rap which is now available in a sinking version. I never go anywhere without a selection of Spinnerbaits. Masterline sell a big spoon [mister muskie spoon] that is a copy of the Efgeeco Piker spoon which was a most effective lure. Find it on
