Title: A peaceful day on the Vedder November 7th
Post by: leaping steely on November 07, 2004, 07:50:02 PM
decided to take a chance with the water conditions today. Big T and I arrived at 9 o'clock to find the water slightly high and murky. Throughout the whole day we only saw two fishermen. The first fish today was a nice 6 pound chrome wild Coho. Later on I get into another one, this time a hatchery. In all, Big T keeps 3 Coho and I keep 2. Five Coho in all. We released a few wilds, and also long lined released two monster Coho about 15 pounds. Most were still silver to Chrome but a few were just slightly pink. We did also hook a few tomatoes but if I remember correctly we didn't land any Tomatoes. Lots of Chums in the system. 70% of the Chums hooked today still had silvery scales and a whitish belly.. On the last cast, I hooked into a hatchery clipped spring about 30 pounds. Great way to end the day. :D Today I noticed that the water was rising and colouring up more, even though it wasn't really rainning. A great day today. :) ;D

hi bigguy, capilano salmon hatchery has a salmon head recovery program, they cut the rear fin off of spring so that when you return the head, they will have a history of it.in return the head recovery program will sent you a history of that salmon,it will include information to you as to where the fish a original is from.they will also sent you a pin for it.this will only works on springs and steelehad.chum man already sent in three heads in included his steelhead from last year...more information can be found in the regulation book.......and today we did have an awlsome day.....

Big T, Cap springs come into the Vedder?  When I read the report I thought it was the Vedder, not sure I understand. ???

Sorry about the confusion :( :(  The spring is not from the Cap.  and it IS caught from the Vedder.   I hope this will make things clear for you.  If you catch a spring with the adipose fin missing then that means that there is a coded wire implanted into it's head.  according to the salmon regulation or on your own decission you cut off the head and bring it to the nearest hatchery, which is the one at the Capilano Salmon hatchery and return the head to them for the salmon head recovery program.  They will remove the implanted wire and find out where the fish was originally from, that is where it was hatched and from which route it took to get to where you caught it.  In return they will give you a report of their findings and reward you with a steelhead pin.  This salmon head recovery program applies to all salmon and steelheads.  Because you can only keep hatchery cohos they don't really care for them but they usually like to receive springs and steelheads.  all the info can be found the the regulation book.  I hope this helps you.    FISH ON

:o

Geez almost sent me into a frenzy looking for "grey" wool. So to clarify things, you used half black and half white wool to catch your coho?

Ok makes sense, I have caught steelhead and coho that have had the transmitter and I have received a tag and info in the mail!  But they use to give away a prize as well. Do they do that anymore?

Was going to give the Vedder a try today. I have a favourite place just up past Vedder Crossing. Wondering if it is too low down now? I am not trying to get in anyone's secret spot, but could someone point me to roughly where on the river the fish are?

thanks
Vince
