Fished throughout the river, dad got one coho on a gibbs croc (hammered gold w/fire wings). Good sized fish, he also got a small cutty on the same lure. There was a very nice friendly man from England fishing near us who was fascinated by the coho, he later caught one and was really stoked, good for him. I hooked many other fish on different lures (crocs and kohos), I think I may have hooked a coho, but lost it, also hooked and lost a few chums. Neither of us are snagging nearly as many chums as before, are the numbers of chums lower this year or something ? All in all, a very good day on the water.
One event that did leave a bit of a sore taste was watching the natives pull in a big net full of chums, I have nothing against them fishing, but why chums ? Also, had one guy tell me and dad to "move along" in our boat because we asked him if he was catching anything, be social on the river guys, it's not like I'm gonna tie up to you and fish in "your" spot. Lots of boats on the water, wind was blowing pretty good and the river was up quite a bit.
Here's the fish:

Good report. Going this weekend

OMG...the photo worked...hey rod, I wasn't sure how to resize the photo so that it all fits on the same page without having to scroll over, is there any way to fix that ?

Hey Spudcote, almost all the smoked salmon you see for sale in the store is made from Chum Salmon. That is why the Natives net them. They are pretty good smoked if you ask me!

Chum roe sells for $8.00 a lb at the market. I was totally out of roe so I tried Bruce's Market in Maple Ridge and was told that fresh one just came in for a price of $8.00 a lb.

Nice coho man!! ;D Congats!!

Hey Spud, nice to see your dad got into a good coho. Did he give you good tip afterwards for the guiding? ;)
The English fella you guys bumped into, is this him? :)

I can't really tell from that photo. He was a real friendly guy who was guided for the day, they had done some sturgeon fishing and were now going for salmon, he had all his own fly gear and seemed to be wandering away from the guide boat until we aventually couldn't see him. He had fished all over the world (with the exception of England, where he was from...). He had long hair and earings and a ring in the eyebrow.
Selling the roe seems to make sense now.
Dad says thanks for the support, and rod, he was a real cheap tipper... :P
-
Ok, that's definitely not him then lol.... Wow, you English people are all over the place... Kind of like us Chinese too.... ;D
The guy in the photo is Ross UK on the forum. He is currently fishing with STS Guiding Service (every year he comes here for his favorite species - sturgeon). That coho was taken from a secret stream in the Valley ;D ;D ;D, around 14 to 15lb I was told. :)

I think the guy we met was also wth STS, Ross came with a group this year maybe ?
-
No he is by himself.... :)
