Have fished Jones several times from shore catching many fish spin casting with a float & worms and fly casting with excellent results. Fish the the 2nd Hydro campsite at the creek mouth or on the log boom around the dam spillway, also anywhere along the dam's rip rap.
Road up there is a rough and steep in places so beware, you won't see too many car's up there.
Good luck!

It all depends if you do not mind bottoming out every now and then, you do see a few mufflers on the side of the road! Actualy a van with a family lost control this summer coming down one of the steeper parts, failing to make a corner and down a embankment.
A van will make it but like I said it would be very rough and steep in places the road is not maintained so the risk is yours.

How far of a drive is Jones Lake from Burnaby?

Already been said but to emphasize..road is rought and steep...clearance is a concern. Nice place once you get there.

Think I'd have any problem in a rear-wheel-drive 1/2 ton pickup?

Pickup would be no problem at all. Just keep her in low gear coming back down to save your brakes and to be safe.
